That said, I haven't seen Halloween for a really, really long time. So my boring answer might be Halloween.

i watch horror all year long also. i save a few of my favs for halloween

Well my go to October 31 film is Crimson Peak because I'm a del Toro fan but who knows, I may change it up.

Anyone wanna suggest a non cheesy horror, go for it. I don't like low budget horror unless it's foreign meaning non-English.

Messiah of Evil
City of the Living Dead
The Beyond
The Apparition, 2012
I'm probably due for Dawn of the Dead again as well.

Are you a fan of Italian horror?

Depends. If it a gaillo,, I'm not a fan. I watched a gaillo film before and did not like. It was thriller to me.

I have seen The Grapes of Death. It was a decent film.

Damn phone auto correct

Let the Right One In
One Cut of the Dead

The four must watch movies for Halloween (not necessarily ask on the same night, but hopefully close to it):

Hocus Pocus
Zombieland
Halloween (1978)
Trick R Treat

That's because they are thrillers. There's a crossover period in the early 70's and people can/do argue over which film is the 'first' slasher/horror rather than a slasher like thriller, Torso and A Bay Of Blood seem to be the two favourites in recent years, but Giallo are thrillers.

Obviously the lines blur and I'm not one for set rules as to what is and isn't a 'insert genre' so, for me, it's about 'feel' which I accept is far more arbitrary and leads to arguments I also have a theory that part of the 'problem' people (especially from N. America and the US in particular in my experience) have with genre is that video rentals 'had' to have things categorised and owners would play it safe, rather than have complaints from people (especially parents) than explain that Se7en is a thriller and not a horror, despite horrible things happening. Ditto Silence Of The Lambs and similar films.

I will rewatch Whitney Houston Concert for a New South Africa in my mind.

It was Torso that I bought and did not like it. It was a bit boring.

Victim of The Night
I now watch all of these pretty much every year:

The Rocky Horror Picture Show
The Fog
Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein
Trick 'r Treat
The Cabin In The Woods
Fright Night
City Of The Living Dead
Messiah Of Evil
Beetlejuice
White Zombie
Return Of The Living Dead
Halloween III: Season Of The Witch

And usually Vampire Circus, Spider Baby, and Creature From The Black Lagoon.

I can understand that. As I said, this is around the crossover point, but they're still largely giallo's then, IMO, even with the slasher elements starting to show and, IMO, lots of slashers are still more thriller than horror. Were it not for the higher body count, many 70's/early 80's slashers feel very much like thriller, psychological or otherwise.

So many great choices! I'll definitely watch fright night again too.

Hello there.

The trick is not minding
Like others here, I watch horror year round. October, however, is where I really grind them out in recent years. Many first time watches and some rewatches (Carpenter’s Halloween and its sequel, The Thing, maybe some Friday the 13th thrown in).

Siddon usually hosts some October Horror Challenge on this site that I join as well
