Lennon's reviews!

Welcome to the human race...
Well, that's certainly a different opinion. I'd just like to mention a couple of things...

What'd you think of the performances you didn't mention? (ones that are actually fairly significant compared to the others you mentioned e.g. Mandy Patinkin as Inigo)

As for cheap-looking shots, I generally accepted these as being typical of the quality of early swashbuckler fare such as The Adventures of Robin Hood, which I think was what they were going for.

Bright light. Bright light. Uh oh.
I think his review is mostly legit. The part I don't get is that
is a film unliked. I give it
, and my wife (my fiancee at the time we saw it opening night) has always deliriously loved the novel and the film, yet I can see the "fake" parts of the movie. Even so, it's a fairy tale, and the kid says he doesn't like the romance crap (sorta like Lennon), so why wouldn't he visualize it as yucky?

P.S. Errol Flynn's Adventures of Robin Hood is just as good as The Princess Bride, and that's meant as a compliment to both films.

ah yes, I can't see why I didn't mention Mandy Patinkin, I loved the character Inigo; he really had me feeling for him, great character there

and I already mentioned Andre the Giant, he was a great gentle giant,

American Dreamz

Mandy Moore now has two brilliant satires under her belt.

Dafoe compared to Dick Cheney

Paul Weitz teams up with Dennis Quaid again after his under-rated film, In Good Company.

Imagine a world where the president never reads the newspaper, where the government goes to war for all the wrong reasons, and where more people vote for the next pop idol then the next president. I don’t think that idea is far off.

President Stanton (Quaid), hasn’t looked at a newspaper in four years, on the morning of his re-election he finally looks at one at gets a sudden re-awakening. To re-examine his worldview he locks himself in his room for several weeks. His Chief of Staff (Dafoe), believing he is going cuckoo-bananas, gives him "happy pills" and books him on the hottest show know to man, American Ido... I mean Dreamz.

Dennis Quaid plays the president with an eerie Texas accent, his impersonation of Bush's voice was flawless in my opinion. One of his best comedic roles in my opinion. He gives us a lot of funny moments just by making us think "How could we elect such a dumb-ass for a president?..... Oh yeah, him."

William Dafoe plays a flawless obvious impersonation of Dick Cheney, I was waiting for him to shoot Hugh Grant in the face. Just a great hairdo, (picture above.)

Hugh Grant plays Martin Tweed a reality show host, an obvious impersonation of Simon Cowell. He really had me immersed in his role.

Mandy Moore plays Sally Kendoo an inspiring singer on the show American Dreamz. She is much better in this satire then in her other one, Saved! She reminded me of a Britney Spears type teen princess. Proving she can be an actress as well as a singer.

Sam Golzari plays Omer, a terrorist who moves to America and lives with his cousin who only dreams of being on American Dreamz. When Omer is picked for American Dreamz, not his cousin, his old terrorist buddies want him to bomb the finale of the show where the President will be.

I loved this movie, although despite a very good script written by Paul himself and a great ensemble cast, during some scenes, I felt like I was in a bad spoof. Also, I hated the ending of this movie.

I had fun, so

I hated the ending to this movie too, but my rating is far lower.
what did would you rate it?

Teacher's Pet (2004)

Possibly the most under-rated animation movie ever

Timothy Björklund gives us a complete box-office flop of a Disney movie.

Our story follows Spot the dogon his adventure to become a boy. This time, in feature-length form, he travels to California to visit the sane (he swears) Dr. Ivan Krank, who says he can turn any animal human.

Nathan Lane plays Spot Helperman or Scott Leadready II when he dresses up like a boy. I love Nathan Lane’s voice acting, he was great in the Lion King, and is great in this, no complaints.

Shaun Flemming plays Leonard Amadeus Helperman, Spot’s owner and best friend. His voice acting is done well enough, not as great as Nathan Lane’s, but nothing terrible.

Kelsey Grammer plays the SANE Dr. Ivan Krank, a scientist who has developed a very inept way of transforming animals to humans. Kelsey Grammer has fine voice acting, porbably from hiss experience as Sideshow Bob on the hit series The Simpsons.

I have no complaints about this movie, it was well crafted, pretty well drawn, and I don’t see why it wasn’t a hit. Two bigs things kind of bothered me though, for one I hate Debra Jo Rupp’s voice, I find her annoying! Second, the way the animators drew people kind of make them look creepy.

Spider-Man 2

The rare sequel that passes the original

Sam Raimi gives us the second part of his Spider-Man series.

Our story follows Peter as a struggling college student, juggling his job, class, friends, and being Spider-Man. Peter finally meets his idol Doctor Octavius who invites him to a new fusion reactor experiment they are going to do the next day. At that experiment he puts eight tentacles on him and the fusion reactor erupts and pulls a lot of stuff off the wall, killing his wife Rosie and fusing the tentacles to him and they take over his mind and becomes evil.

Tobey McGuire returns to the role that made him a star, Peter Parker. He plays a very good geek and an unconventional hero. Although he lays a bit on the cheese factors on time.

Kirsten Dunst plays Mary Jane Watson, the girl Peter’s been crushing on. She plays her role very nicely, I do have one problem, she gets mad at him and breaks up her friendship with Pete for the weirdest reason.

Alfred Molina is one of my favorite actors from Raiders of the Lost Ark to The Hoax, no slip ups on his performance, he almost made me sympathize with him.

James Franco is easily the worst in this movie, a major on the cheese factor. The one good thing about his character is that he has an awesome ending.

I liked this movie, the special effects were awesome (well-deserved Oscar,) the only problem I had was the acting and them putting on the cheese.

2....that was being generous.
OUCH! I liked it, it entertained me, I know it is no classic as say Dr. Strangelove, but fun all the same

The Ten

2 out of 8 is all I liked, I didn't finish, I had had enough

I’m not one to say that God doesn’t exist, but I think if he did, David Wain would be dead.

Paul Rudd gives us unfunny introductions to these bad ten tales; the intros are laughable, in a bad way.

Adam Brody’s story in the beginning of the movie as a kid who gets stuck in the ground was pretty funny, and the acting in this wasn’t all that bad, some laughs there.

Gretchen Mol’s story as a librarian who has a sex in Mexico was so bad, I skipped it.

Ken Marino acts in a crap story that repeating the word "goof" was supposed to be funny, well it isn't

Kerri Kenney-Silver plays a white mom with a white husband and has black kids. Then she reveals that their father is Arnold Schwarzenneger, possibly the second worst skit of the Ten.

Rob Corddry plays a man in prison who covets his fellow inmate’s prison Bitch, this was just weird.

Winnona Ryder plays a woman who somehow falls in love with a ventriloquist dummy, steals it and has sex with it, +1 for her sheer dedication to this role.

Liev Schreiber plays a man who buys CAT scan machines because his neighbor did, this sketch is brilliant, the best of the movie.

This movie was so bad, I acctually only watched those skits, by the ventriloquist sketch I had enough. Pass on the Ten.

The Story of Stuff

20 Minutes that just may change your thinking on what you buy

Annie Leonard gives us a fascinating 20-minute documentary that I was too quick to turn off the first time.

This documentary is interesting, by the first 10 minutes I was in it, ti follows the story of where our stuff comes from, from the time it is built to the time we throw it out. I must give this a 4.5 because I had one problem with it, to me it did come off a bit as "**** America" but not too bad. I suggest you watch.

Great Situation Comedy

9 strangers (Meyer, Gooding Jr., Green, Vieluf, Chapman, Lovitz, Goldberg, Chapman, Smart and Atkinson) go on a Rat Race to Silver City, New Mexico where a bag with two million dollars waits.

John Cleese plays Donald Sinclair, a casino owner who puts 7 tokens into 9 slot machines and makes them go 581 miles to Silver Dollar City, the first one there gets two million dollars. His performance is memorable and very funny.

Breckin Meyer plays Nick Schaffer, a man who barely lives, he always follows the rules and is very gullible, I really liked his character and the things he does to get the girl and the cash.

Cuba Gooding Jr. plays Owen Templeton, a bumbling NFL referee who just made the worst call known to man. Again, a great character, I just love the things people do to him because of his call.

Seth Green and Vince Vieluf play Duane and Blaine Cody, two bothers that are con artist. Their cheating ways are hilarious.

Lanei Chapman plays Merril Jennings, a business women who’s meeting her estranged mother, their rocket car scene is probably the best scene in the whole movie.

Jon Lovitz plays Randy Pear, a family man on a family vacation. Him with at the WWII Veterans meeting is just pure classic.

Woopi Goldberg plays Vera Baker, Merril Jennings’ estranged mother, she is a bit trashy but makes her that much more loveable. Again, great look and acting in the rocket car.

Amy Smart plays Tracy Faucet, a somewhat crazy helicopter pilot. Her confronting her cheating boyfriend is again, one of the best scenes in the movie.

Rowan Atkinson plays Enrico Pollini. He plays the physical part well, using his trademark grunts and little noises, such as Mr. Bean.

I loved this movie and had a fun time, the only bad part of the movie was the ending, it did my pet peeve, laid a little bit on the cheese.

Daredevil

I wish I was blind to avoid this

Blinded from toxic waste, Matt Murdock (Affleck) becomes the superhero Daredevil. Ridding the world of evil, including the dreaded Kingpin (Duncan.)

Ben Affleck is Matt Murdock, the blind lawyer who at night dreses as
Daredevil and gets his revenge. For being married to Jennifer Garner, I really didn’t feel their chemistry.

Jennifer Garner plays Elektra Natchios, Matt Murdock’s lover, her acting is pretty bad, but her action scenes are awesome.

Colin Farrell plays Bullseye in his worst role, probably ever. His one-liners are cringe-worthy at times, how he snaps when he misses.

Micheal Clarke Duncan, plays a black Kingpin, wait a sec, wasn’t he white in the comics?

I really didn’t enjoy this film acting wise, but I will give this a two because most of the action scenes are pretty cool to look at, and the special effects are pretty good, also the Director’s cut is much better.

Shoot 'Em Up

This movie has two modes: firing a gun or buying a gun

The mysterious Mr. Smith (Owen) gets mixed into a political cover-up involving gun control and a baby.

Oh you are looking for Oscar-worthy acting? 2 questions, what kind of crack are you on? And second, can I have some? Well, anyway, here it goes.

Clive Owen plays the mysterious Mr. Smith, a total B.A, who uses anything and everything to kill. This character was very memorable, and you will feel for him by the end.

Paul Giamatti, whose Oscar is hiding under somewhere, plays Hertz, possibly the coolest hitman ever. The

Monica Bellucci, plays Donna Quintano, a hooker who has a lot of breast milk for the baby, the sex scene with Owen is just amazingly funny and why Owen is my new idol.

What can I say about this movie? It has great guns, tons of nice racks, and it doesn’t try to be something it’s not.

Mean Girls

The greatest teenage Lindsay Lohan movie out there.

Yes, I know, I Know Who Killed Me came in a close second though!

In this hilarious movie Cady Heron (Lohan) comes to a new school from being home-schooled in Africa, there she meets Janis Ian (Caplan) and Damien (Franzese.) She also meets the dreaded Plastics (McAdams, Chabert, and Seyfried.) Janis, Damien and Cady then decide to get revenge on Regina for something she did to her a couple years ago.

Lindsay Lohan plays Cady Heron, a girl who is coming to a new school after being home-schooled in Africa. She is actually good in this, in the later half of the movie, although cheesy, she did really well. I felt for her character.

Lizzy Caplan plays Janis Ian, a very weird high school student and wants revenge on Regina George for ruining her life. Although a bit odd and different, I really did like this character and she made me laugh out loud A LOT.

Daniel Franzese plays Damien, he is that kid in high school who might be gay but you’re not sure and you don’t really ask him. Just his total gayness, was funny.

Rachael McAdams plays Regina George, the leader of the Plastics, who acts nice to everyone but talks about them behind their backs and spreads rumors, anything to get what she wants. By the end of this movie, I promise you won’t hate her.

Lacey Chabert plays Gretchen Wieners; her dad invented toaster strudel and knows everything about everyone. I didn’t care for her character much, except for her fetch lines.

Amanda Seyfried plays Karen Smith, the dumbest girl you will ever meet. It is hilarious the way she ends up.

I am secure enough with my manly-hood to say that I loved this movie, really great performances by writer and star Tina Fey also Tim Meadows. Although the dang cheesy ten minutes before the ending.
