WWII movie

Hello!


I need help finding a movie. It is set in WWII and I remember 1 scene from it - the Ocean, German pilots have tried to sink an American ship before their plane has been destroyed by the ship's air defenses. The ship goes close to the surviving Germans holding onto the wreckage in the water and the ship's captain/XO gets a machine gun and starts firing at them. Another member of the crew says to him - "You're firing at unarmed men!" and he replies "Look at our dead - see how unarmed they (the Germans) are" and keeps shooting.
The movie is old, I watched it in the 90s, it could be from the time of the war itself. It may have been black/white, too.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

U-571 had the scene where the German captain ordered the sailor to fire on the lifeboat survivors.

Was it B&W? I seem to remember a scene like that in Passage to Marseille with Humphrey Bogart.
