20th century cinema in 250 images

Your images are stunning, very sharp and all sized the same dimension...nicely done! Why are you finding these images at? When I look at an internet search, I usually find mediocre images.
Thanks very much for the comment and really pleased to hear you're enjoying it. I guess that the dimension thing is just how the software on here formats them.

They're just images I've found in films I've watched and screenshotted them.

Some of them it takes quite a bit of effort to get the right screenshot. In some cases it can come down to a few frames so takes several attempts. The main work though is in finding the images in the first place, and that is only from watching a lot of great films by great directors and cinematographers. Then it's 'just' selecting which ones are the best.

A lot of 'work' has gone in to preparing and refining this collection (and various other exercises I've done)!

Unfortunately I deleted most of them* when I had a problem with my fan overheating, but I've taken more than 20,000 screenshots.

*the original screenshots, but I'd saved what I reckoned at the time were the best ones in various word documents, so no massive loss.

You must have a gaming computer or a computer with a good graphics card to get such sharp screen shots. Everytime I try to do a screenshot of a movie I have my ancient graphics card make a fuzzy image at best.

Nothing out of this world I don't think. Graphics is 'Intel Iris Xe'.
Reviews suggest it's just middle of the road.
I think it's mainly the images tbh.
But yes, if your's is out of date then I guess that wouldn't really work for screenshots

This brings us almost exactly to the half way mark.
And I need to admit that whilst there are still many great shots still to come, it could be said that it's all downhill from here.
Whilst it's far from the greatest film, Visconti's The Leopard must be I should think the most visually beautiful film ever made?

Victim of The Night
Haha. Yeah nobody seems interested! Appreciate that though, thanks very much. (smile smiley)
Definitely interested and really enjoying it, just not much to say more about appreciating and thinking about the images.
The Snow White one (the first one), for example, makes me want to re-watch that movie as I didn't realize they were going for shots like that.

Thanks very much for the comment.

Not posted any, but there are some really clever and inventive shots and sequences in Pinocchio as well. They would definitely have been groundbreaking at the time.

Ah geez, I just realized how sucked into modernity I've become. When I first looked at this picture I thought Burt Lancaster was looking down at his iPhone...

Amazing and breathtaking! The lighting is perfect. These look like old master's paintings paricularly Delacroix.

Indeed. There is so much incredible care and detail taken over many of the scenes in this film.
They are designed as pieces of art, exactly as you say. Must have been great fun for the actors knowing they were becoming works of art!
There are many more as well. The story, dialogue etc isn't all that I didn't think, but really who cares when it looks like this!!
