2018 Market Share (ongoing)

The Bib-iest of Nickels
I remember a few months ago with Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox, somebody posted the estimate that Disney now accounted for 40% of the box-office market-share. Since I approach the analytical side of the movie-industry in a similar way to how sports fans approach football or baseball, I like to gauge not only the statistics of each individual film, but, frankly, how my team's doing, and so, for this thread, I will be keeping track of each studio. Here's my rubric: I will only count films with considerable marketing budgets and/or box-office returns. For instance, a film like The Strange Ones, which was released through on-demand and in a small theatrical release, isn't something I'll count, since it'll become overtly complicated, instead of the general overview I wish to have. Basically, the films I cover in my other thread will be accounted for in this. I will include the percent of the market-share and I will include the production budget versus. the box-office returns. I have decided to comprise this as a Domestic Market Share because of how difficult and inaccurate it is trying to account for foreign territories.

January at the Domestic Box Office
January is oftentimes regarded as the month where studios leave films to die by the wayside. This is more truthful for the domestic box-office than it is in foreign territories. Japan doesn't share our disdain for January for instance. This is how, last year, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter was able to have the lowest returns of the entire Resident Evil franchise, but gross nearly 300 million through foreign markets. This year, 37 films were able to cross the one-million threshold necessary to be eligible for inclusion in my 2018 Market Share calculations, with Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle standing far ahead of its nearest competitor, a space opera by the name of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The Greatest Showmen has done very well also, with 62% of its domestic profit acquired in the month of January. It's thereafter we have our first 2018 release, a horror film that acts as the fourth installment in the Insidious franchise.

Love this. Keep up the good work.
Thanks, man! I originally wanted to do something for Worldwide market-share, but when I was crunching the numbers, I realized that there was a lot of discrepancies and a lot of foreign films that are under-reported. Domestic, on the other-hand, is much easier to keep track of, but, admittedly, not as cool.
