I'm having trouble remembering this. Maybe based on a true story, a civilian family is sent to a POW camp (Luzon, I think) during WWII? Pretty grim. Waiting for MacArthur to return. Not The Great Raid, but produced in past decade or so, I feel. Thanks.

Good guess, thanks, but it was definitely set in the Philippines, because I remember them mentioning Luzon. And it may be from the pov of a child, I'm thinking a girl, who possibly grew up to write a book about it? I hope I didn't dream it.
A book came out in 2012 written from the POV of a girl. Terry: The Inspiring Story of a Little Girl's Survival as a POW During WWII
OHForums, it sounds a lot like that 2012 book. Galarth, the movie I'm (barely) recalling was definitely set in the Philippines, not China.
I've done a few searches and haven't turned up much. The only promising thing I've found is this: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092236/?ref_=adv_li_tt
