Classic war movie

American, 40s-50s

The movie follows a number of conscripts that joined the Navy/Army in WWII. Everybody is cheerful and the movie went heavy-handed with the trumpet music. Half of the characters are pretty girls with period haircuts that signed up as nurses, and somehow are always around the boys. The scene I remember is when they board the ship one by one walking over a long ramp. The camera is onboard, so they look at it and smile, kinda red carpet, and it takes like three minutes to go over all of them.

I believe Up in Arms (1944) is what you are looking for. A WPIX broadcast of the full movie (complete with adverts) from 1987 has been posted to YouTube
