Gangs of Wasseypur

An amazing modern indian film, a complete aberration as this is a full fledged masterpiece. It definitely holds its place amongst the top gangster films, I'm talking about Casino, The Departed and etc. Highly recommended.

Planet 51 - 8/10

First, let me clarify, because I know I've said I don't like sci-fi, and usually I don't, unless its a comedy, in which case I'll probably love it. (ie, 3rd rock from the sun tv show, hitchhikers guide to the universe book, etc)Loved it, but it's hard to give a kid's animation movie a high rating, so this is what I was most comfortable with. But in terms of kids animation movies, it's definitely up there with some of my favorites. I thought it was funny, plus it had tons of underlying meanings, including older sci-fi movie references. I just thought the whole thing was so clever, and it was funny and entertaining. (Is it sad that most movies that make me laugh out loud are kids movies?)

Duck Soup - 8.5/10

Funny on all fronts, a great movie. I personally, for a movie's sake, don't enjoy the kind of candid humor that is unnatural. It's more or less vaudeville put on screen, but with a more elaborate, meaningful plot, which made it worthwhile. Harpo Marx is my favorite in the movie - hilarious! And it makes me sad there's barely any physical comedy today, and if there is it is greatly unappreciated. It gets its rating from it's pure humor and its satire.

Thirst

Vampire movie from Park Chan-wook. I liked it but some of the effects were annoying. No real reason for vampires to jump everywhere so if the effects look bad, leave them out.

7/10

Lawless

Looks great and is well acted but was lacking something. Plot wise, to me, it struggled in parts and I didn't like the ending much. Still good though.

7/10

Antichrist

Have thought about this for a week because I didn't know what rating to give it. Have never hated such a great movie quite so much. I guess that's the intention.

7/10

The Prestige
18/20
What a beautiful movie that was. Great acting, great story, amazing plot twist, everything to keep me entertained.

Proximity, love Night on Earth! Especially the Roberto Benigni sequence.

Stag Night (2008) Directed by actor Breckin Meyer, who also has a big role in the film. Stag party guys, along with two strippers, get stranded in the subway system in the wee hours of the morning, stalked by killer homeless people! Yes, I know, but it was compelling for most of its running time, till the crap ending. What sucked was that the script set it up to NOT have the ending it did. Oh well. 5/10

Moonrise Kingdom (2012) Another very good Wes Anderson film, with the big-name stars taking a back seat to the two young leads, Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward. The dry humor is great, with the adult stars, Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton, etc. doing good work. But the kids are the stars of the movie, no doubt, and even though their delivery is mostly (and purposefully) deadpan, they deliver. Just a feel-good movie. 9/10

The ending was really crappy. I also think I would have preferred someone other than Shia LaBeouf in his role, but the rest of the cast was great, especially Tom Hardy. Still, I really liked it and it's probably something I'll end up watching many times. Too bad about the ending.

Eyes Wide Shut by Stanley Kubrick

I initially planned to light up while watching this, but from the moment I started the movie til Kidman's striking final line, I was completely absorbed and didn't even think about anything else. This film is hilariously under-praised.

Same! My favorite sequence was probably the one with Rosie Perez. Yo-Yo and Helmut brought the lulz. My favorite thing about Jarmusch - at least of the films I've seen - is that he meditates on the mundane. He brings a short film mentality to the feature - capturing the moment and establishing that whatever takes place outside of it is not a prerequisite for understanding or emotional investment.

Citizen Kane
Pretty much hated the movie, it didn't catch my interest at all.

5/10 for the innovations it brought to the industry, nothing else.

The Horde - 6.5/10

Decent as far as the more serious of zombie flicks go. Plenty of action and awesome visuals. A few of the fight scenes were awesome to say the least. Mostly predictable, but often funny in places while never becoming slapstick.

Even though the zombie subgenre may be oversaturated at this point; this is one of the better flicks to pick from. I'd definitely recommend a viewing, and it's well worth the ride.
