"My name is Psycho but you can call me Stuart."
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead - The film based on a Tom Stoppard play of the same name, follows the misadventures and musings of the two minor characters from Shakespeare's Hamlet, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern.

Both Gary Oldman and Tim Roth are brilliant in the roles of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. Sublimely funny through the power of dialog alone. 5/5

Skyline - There are no words to describe the lameness of this flick. It was so impossibly bad that I want to scrub any memory of it from my brain with steel wool, and I want my 94 minutes of life back. 0/5

The sequel to the Kurosawa's first movie. It leaves off from the last movie where Sanshiro is must now deal with the brothers of the villain from the last movie. But instead of judo vs juijitsu it is judo vs karate. He also competes against an American boxer. It continues to show Sugata's growth from once reckless brawler to a more disciplined warrior, but he still has things to learn. And in my opinion it is a little better then the first one.

Argo - 7.5/10 Was maybe a bit overhyped and i expected more. Still great though.
Citizen Kane - 7/10 Same as Argo although i loved the last 30mins.
Spirited Away - 7/10 Honestly didnt think i would enjoy this as much as i did. Pleasantly surprised, i'd definately watch this again and i'd prob end up rating it even higher.
Baise Moi - 5/10 pretty mindless porn/action/revenge flick.
Persona - 9/10 Unreal. i thought was better than Seventh Seal....just.
1968 Tunnel rats - 4/10 boring.
Monsters inc - 9/10 One of my favourite Pixar plus my daughter loves it too.
12 Angry Men - 10/10 Just Amazing. Loved every second.
Jurassic Park trilogy - 8/10 Again my daughter loves dinosaurs so this is another family favourite.
My Neighbour Tortoro - 8/10 Loved this.

Conviction - Kind of boring at times, and the fact that it was based on a true story took most of the excitement out of it, but some great performances, and a touching ending helped it a lot.

JFK - It really could've just been a documentary and it would've been better, but it is still a truly fascinating mystery. It would've been much higher, but you didn't get to know the characters until the middle, so up to that point I just wasn't emotionally invested, so the plot automatically seemed less interesting. It definitely made up for it in the end, though. Better than Conviction, but still

The Men Who Tread on the Tiger's Tail

This was Kurosawa's fourth movie and the movie that was his first movie set in the feudal era. It is the story of Lord Yoshitsune and his group of samurai entourage are on the run and must pass through a boarder post undetected. Aided by a hilarious and very well acted Porter, the story blends cinema with the traditions of kabuki theater and Noh musical drama. And as of right now it is my favorite of Kurosawa's earliest works.

Monsters inc better than Citizen Kane and Spirited Away? Heresy. Well, I rated Wallace & Gromit in the Wrong Trousers higher than Bresson and Godard, my own heresy.

I've been on a steady diet of Studio Ghibli movies recently and I'm going to rate the ones I've watched so far:

1. Spirited Away 8/10, My introduction to the studio and I was mesmerised from the beginning. Animation and story telling rarely gets better

2. Princess Mononoke 8/10, I was pleasantly surprised by the violence shown in this, especially considering it's a PG. Far more risky than any Hollywood animation and more heartfelt too.

3. Porco Rosso 7/10, Is Porco the coolest, most badass animated character ever? Not quite as captivating as the other 2 but a very good movie which clearly shows Miyazaki's love for flying (a theme seen in many other Ghibli movies).

4. Arrietty 7/10, One of the most heartfelt coming of age tales I've ever seen, it's beautifully animated with some absolutely unforgettable scenes. A must watch for anyone who wants to experience Japanese animation.

5. Howl's Moving Castle 7/10, Studio Ghibli is great at giving us tales about young teens who are entering into the adult world and Sophie's journey with Howl and his moving castle is one of the best.

6. Kiki's Delivery Service 6/10, The first movie that has really let me down, clunky dialogue and a story that doesn't hit it's stride until the last 20 minutes, this was extremely disappointing.

to be honest i tend not to dwell too much on ratings, some films contain more sentimental value than others, some films need to be watched more times than others, prime example Monsters inc being higher than Citizen Kane. Although saying that, i just didnt fall in love with CK.

Also when my daughter loves something as much as she loves Monsters Inc? How can i not too?

(to an extent)
