Casino Royale

Casino Royale was without a doubt the best Bond film to date. Not only that but I'll be as bold to say Daniel Craig is the best Bond yet. And that's saying a lot considering how mch I loved Connery.

So many fantastic action scenes in this movie from the opening chase scene in Madagascar over the water on the high beams to the airport scene with the terrorist.

My nextdoor neighbor who considers himself a Bond expert (only because he owns the box sets) says Casino Royale is a terrible Bond film (he says because they don't play the right Bond card game, Daniel Craig is apparently blonde, Bond's character has no witty sayings, he doesn't get his martini shaken, etc). I told him that Bond's character was undeveloped to the point he was in the other films, hence his more aggressive attitude and lack of sense of humor, he had to lose his first love in order to become the Bond the other films portrayed. He said that was bollocks and that Quantum Of Solace was a better Bond film. I don't think I'm gonna talk to him anymore.

Casino Royale was without a doubt the best Bond film to date.
I dunno about THE best but it's probably in my top 5

Well i think Casino Royale was a big improvement compared to the last few attemps on bond movies. The movie was a great movie, great story, cool cars , hot girls, great action all what a bond movie should be. Daniel Craig was fantastic playing James Bond he was so cool and carried the role of perfect, alot better than what Pierce Brosnan could do with it.

plus she was pretty hot

When I was growing up, kids my age would say Brosnan is the best Bond & his movies are the Best Bond movies.
These comments would usually make me feel like puking.

I love Casino Royale & just like winter, it would certainly be on my Top 5 Bond films as well..
But it's still a weak film, few decades from now it won't get so much attention.

Craig is definitely good as Bond, but mostly underused.. when they first announced he was going to be Bond, I wasn't all that happy as I was hoping Clive Owen would get the part. But then I saw Layer Cake, from then on I understood why'd he'd make a good Bond.

The problem with the new Bond films is that even though they have continuity, they get different directors, each director has a different vision for the character.
It works with the Harry Potter movies, coz none of the director grew up watching earlier different versions of Harry Potter movies to inspire a different style, also they have to be utmost faithful to the original material.
Most of the Bond movie fans have not read Flemings books.

Now we can only hope Sam Mendes does something brilliant with the next Bond film.

I have hopes on Sam Mendes as well.

But let's not forget the guy who directed QoS directed Finding Neverland, Stay & Stranger than fiction.. He might not be the best director out there, but one would expect something decent from him.

I only hope Sam Mendes gets his creative freedom.. I'd really like to see what he can do with Craig as Bond. He directed one of my favourite Craig roles in Road to Perdition.

If he wants to stick himself in a rut I'm sure he'd do something like that, but I don't think he'd do that for something that already has so much of its mythology established.

Unless it fits

I think what made Casino Royale so popular and successful is that by instituting itself essentially as a prequel to all the other films in the series it was able to create some breathing room for creative license. This was a luxury no other film in the series was granted.

Bright light. Bright light. Uh oh.
I don't know. I'll always remember the cinematic Bond getting married in On Her Majesty's Secret Service which may well have the greatest Bond ending ever.

You ready? You look ready.
Yeah, you gotta be whacked outta your mind to say Casino Royale is a weak film. Now granted the last 25 minutes it starts to drag, but that's only because of the way they had to tie everything off. However, the action scenes are unmatched by any other Bond film, in my opinion. As already mentioned, the opening chase scene is superb, and it's easily ten times better than the opening from Quantum of Solace.

Affirmative.

However, the action scenes are unmatched by any other Bond film, in my opinion.
Absolutely. They were incredible. That scene where he's chasing and fighting the tango on the truck at the airport is fantastic.

As already mentioned, the opening chase scene is superb, and it's easily ten times better than the opening from Quantum of Solace.
I think it's the best opening scene of any Bond film.

Daniel Craig is bad-ass.

You said it my fine gentleman.

You deny it as a weak film & the only strong point you have mentioned about the movie is it's chase & action??
Which can be easily be topped in the future.

I have said this before & will say it again, People only consider Casino Royale because it's a film that pleases the modern filmgoers...
It's a film for the Bourne/Luc Besson generation... it doesn't have the technicolor spy campiness, over-the-top evil masterminds like the old Bond movies did..
& the only film you are drawing comparison to in your post is to QoS???

From Russia With Love is lightyears away as a better film than Casino Royale.

i have rewatched this film yesterday and i have to say it is one of the best movies in the series, i like daniel craig a lot as james bond and he made his mark on the character, the story is really good in this and martin campbell always knows how to reinvent the franchise as he did in goldeneye. a superb film in the james bond series, very emotional aswell.

Casino Royale is a great film but it’s also a great novel, which helps. I love the noirish glamour, Vesper is the only great Bond girl that the Craig era has had (this has been one of the weakest aspects of the Craig era IMO- no iconic Bond girls). It’s a good intro to the series. I really rate Quantum of Solace- certainly the most interesting acting performance from Craig’s Bond, maybe because he had to come up with some of his own lines. There were also some witty moments, a good villain and no bloaty running time like Skyfall and Spectre. You really felt how broken Bond was.
