I am burdened with glorious purpose
You mean JRS hasn't started a thread about this?

Hmmm...anyway, here's the imdb page: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0409847/

And here's the synopsis:

1873. Arizona Territory. A stranger (Craig) with no memory of his past stumbles into the hard desert town of Absolution. The only hint to his history is a mysterious shackle that encircles one wrist. What he discovers is that the people of Absolution dont welcome strangers, and nobody makes a move on its streets unless ordered to do so by the iron-fisted Colonel Dolarhyde (Ford). Its a town that lives in fear.

But Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by marauders from the sky. Screaming down with breathtaking velocity and blinding lights to abduct the helpless one by one, these monsters challenge everything the residents have ever known.

Now, the stranger they rejected is their only hope for salvation. As this gunslinger slowly starts to remember who he is and where hes been, he realizes he holds a secret that could give the town a fighting chance against the alien force. With the help of the elusive traveler Ella (Olivia Wilde), he pulls together a posse comprised of former opponentstownsfolk, Dolarhyde and his boys, outlaws and Apache warriorsall in danger of annihilation. United against a common enemy, they will prepare for an epic showdown for survival.
Harrison Ford v. Daniel Craig....then Ford and Craig against aliens in the Old West!

Based on a graphic novel.

I think it sounds amazing. A combination of genres. The Director of Iron Man 2 directing.

There's more news, too, here:

I'm pretty excited about this.

Looks like the production of this movie is well underway! a lot of new images popping up lately. Anyone seen the new daniel craig shot with cowboy hat and dark background?

The recent modern westerns with sci-fi elements have always sucked
Oh I don't know...I thought The Burrowers was rather good. As for Cowboys & Aliens; let's hope the movie is better than the uninspired title.

Undecided about this movie. I read the comic book a couple of years ago. It was decent. Maybe I'll read it again to refresh my memory. I remember thinking the idea had merit, but not feeling that the comic fully paid off on the concept. It seems there will be much more in the movie's story, which may be good, or bad.

I definitely need to dig out that book. The trailer looks way different (and way better) than I remember the comic. I wonder what the aliens will look like, because I seem to remember them looking very Avatar-like.

I dug out the comic. I haven't re-read it yet, but I was very wrong about the aliens. There are actually a few different races of aliens in the comic, but none look like Avatar. I think I was confusing them for aliens from an episode of the Clone Wars micro-series for some reason.

Jon Favreau. Harrison Ford. Daniel Craig.

I'm in.

I'm all for Alien movies and Westerns, but I just wish they would change the title. I guess it would fit if there is a touch of humor (Haven't read the comics). As long as it doesn't turn out like 'High Plains Invaders', I'll be happy.
