Movie Tab II

Thursday Next's Avatar
I never could get the hang of Thursdays.
Eyes Wide Shut - I don't know why this film has had such negative press; I liked it, mainly because you were never quite sure what to expect next. The scene in the costume rental shop with the daughter of the proprietor was one of the funniest things I have seen in a long time. Alan Cumming was great, as always. And I liked the music.

Murder On The Orient Express - What a great cast!
The Thin Man - I liked William Powell and Myrna Loy's chemistry.

I've recently watched:

Hot Fuzz - pretty cool. Still, Shaun of the Dead takes the cake.

Tideland

I liked it, but I don't know why. I heard T. Gilliam say, "It's about a girl fantasizing about killing her parents." That might be what it's about, and it'd make some sense, but it wouldn't have been my first guess as to what the film was about. I'd consider it a mix between J. Svankmajer's, Alice, and G. Van Sant's, My Own Private Idaho. It's also got an interesting documentary that follows T.G. as he makes the movie.

In the Beginning...
300 (Snyder, 2007)

Pretty good. I had issues at times with the dialogue, the acting, and some of the added material; but overall, it was extremely faithful and well-adapted to Frank Miller's graphic mini-series.

That said, getting to watch two very specific shots on an IMAX screen -- the Persian messengers riding toward Sparta; and Leonidas cutting stylishly through the enemy at the Hot Gates, respectively -- was worth every last penny I spent on my ticket. This was easily the most visually cathartic, super-charged cinema experience I've ever indulged.

Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny

I watched J. Black and K. Gass on some late night talk show and they acknowledged the fact that it, the movie, wasn't doing very well in theaters and that at the most they hoped it would become the best cult movie, ever. I'm guessing it didn't do well in the theater because it wasn't very good and I doubt it's going to be remembered as a classic cult movie. I laughed at some of the lines, but I'm also retarded sometimes. Anyways, I'd only recommend this if you're a fan of their music. If you're not a fan, there's barely a chance that you'll like it.

I would have rather watched Airheads.

You ready? You look ready.

I am a fan of their music, and I didn't like it all that much. The TV series they did was MUCH funnier.

A system of cells interlinked
Casino Royale (Campbell, 2006)

One of the better spy pieces I have seen in a while. Craig is a great bond, and I LUUUUUUV Eva Green. A couple issues with cohesiveness of the story, but pretty minor, considering.

WARNING: "Casino Royale" spoilers below
Watching her die in such a horribly beautiful way really affected me, and I cried. Incredible scene.

The Wind That Shakes the Barley (2006 - Ken Loach)

Loach delivers, socialist debate and everything. Actually, it's the best film I've seen in quite a while. Anyone else seen it? What do you think?

They had temporarily escaped the factories, the warehouses, the slaughterhouses, the car washes - they'd be back in captivity the next day but
now they were out - they were wild with freedom. They weren't thinking about the slavery of poverty. Or the slavery of welfare and food stamps. The rest of us would be all right until the poor learned how to make atom bombs in their basements.
