Clifford the Big Red Dog*is the protagonist of a children’s book series, the first of which was released in 1963. The red doggy cartoon character hero’s have been translated into three popular PBS Kids TV programs, a live musical, computer games, and the 2004 animated movie “Clifford’s Really Big Movie,” which was based on one of the TV series (and did very little business). All of this is to imply that, as odd as it may appear, the new “Clifford the Big Red Dog” is the first truly large-scale Clifford film.
Emily Elizabeth (Darby Camp) meets a mystical animal rescuer (John Cleese) who gives her a cute red puppy, but she never expected to wake up to a ten-foot hound in her tiny New York City apartment. Emily and her entertaining but impulsive uncle Casey (Jack Whitehall) set out on a journey that will keep you on the edge of your seat as our heroes take a bite out of the Big Apple while her single mother (Sienna Guillory) is away on business. Clifford will educate the world how to love large, based on the renowned Scholastic book character.
