Barefoot Gen is one I haven't seen that I hear a lot of good things about.

Have you seen A Silent Voice and Garden of Words? I think based on your list they'd be right up your alley.

What about series, do you have a top list?

I have seen Garden of Words, which I liked. Still have yet to watch A Silent Voice, despite that I do have it in my Blu-Ray collection.

As for series, unfortunately I haven't seen/finished a whole of them. Although if I had to pick some favorites just based on what I've seen so far in no order:

I suggest you to watch Rosario Vampire one of favorite anime that ooze with action, romance and cute characters but there are also some similar anime like Rosario Vampire which are more interesting you can check them out here

Mine are not movies, although i did enjoy akira,i find that the anime series of the 80s are far superior to the movies.
