"How tall is King Kong ?"
Good work. Are they definitive lists? Or are you open to suggestions for additions?
It really depends on the list.

Some are personal favorites (so, until I see a new great movie it won't get in), some are favorites along with some highly regarded classics that I look forward to see (I'd really love suggestions there), and some have 100 entries already and having to add one more would really piss me off.

But all are matters of discussion anyway.
(Also if they could encourage the making and display of alternative lists, it would be great.)

"How tall is King Kong ?"
Also, here's an attempt at a list of Sherlock Holmes movies (featuring direct versions of Sherlock Holmes himself, that is, no cousin, descendant, impersonators, etc). Handy to keep track of the watched ones :

"How tall is King Kong ?"
Suggestions;
Sherlock;
I've tried to avoid tv series or tv films, keeping it about cinema, so no Cumberbatch and no Rupert Everett. But also no Jeremy Brett even though of course of course. That makes it a custom list of the "less good incarnations of sherlock holmes".

Thinking of it, it was immensely dumb of them to not have made even one big screen movie with Brett.

(And there was also a nice-looking tv series with Peter Cushing, that I haven't mentioned in that list. It's tough. But I don't really wish to open the tv can of worms and flood the list with tv shows...)

Suggestions;
At sea;
Oh yes, right.
Oh yes, right.
Oh yes, right.
Oh yes, right.

Thank you.

Missing many of the wartime Sherlocks with Basil Rathbone as the sleuth. Not gonna list them 'cos there's quite a few but here's Basil's IMDb page.

Added it, thank you. My pre-50s era is lacking.

Also yes, I was missing two thirds of the Rathbone/Bruce films. For the sake of exhaustivity, I also added Enola Holmes (Cavill) and, very reluctantly, Holmes & Watson (Ferrell). I preferred concluding the list with Mr Holmes (McKellen).

"How tall is King Kong ?"
I've used this thread :

https://www.movieforums.com/communit...ad.php?t=43199

to flesh out my list of movies taking place under the surface of the sea :

https://www.movieforums.com/lists/custom/299

Also I've tried to make a general top 100, but I only reached 75 movies. Adding others would broaden the quality range to include even harder to hierarchize "merely very good" movies, in unmanageable quantities. So, instead, just my favorite among my favorite :

https://www.movieforums.com/lists/custom/297

I'm updating the OP.

Also, I've integrated to my spy list the films that are mentioned at the "movies" entry of Norman Polmar and Thomas B. Allen's Encyclopedia of Espionage (1997).

_____

Edit : Added some snow.
https://www.movieforums.com/lists/custom/304

And some favorite french films.

Surprisingly too many of these.

I've been trying to import Cinefix's precious lists on MoFo, because I really like Cinefix lists. But... I found out that their "top 10" movie lists often mention more than a hundred films, so, not many can be turned into custom lists. For Instance, i started their "top 10 most uplifing movies" before realizing they were around 160...

Anyway, I'll post the ones I do and that stay reasonably below 100, as, hm, most "top 10" lists should. Ideally.

Cinefix's Top 100 Most Talked About Movies (28.05.2018)
https://www.movieforums.com/lists/custom/308

On the Cinefix's Top 100 Most Talked About Movies (28.05.2018) list, the movie 12 Angry Men is listed as 1954. The 1954 version is a live Studio One version, not the movie. The movie version is 1957.

Ah, thank you very much. Yesterday night, I had also noticed that I had a very wrong Akira in there, and a The Predator instead of Predator. I hope there aren't other mistakes. I try to be careful, but sometimes the default version that is proposed when a name is typed in is an odd choice and slips in. (I almost made a thread about it - not about the mofo engine, but about how search engines and people hierarchize versions of a title.)
