The End by Nico drove me around the bend and I sold it. I think its her voice sometimes.

Yeah, that's one that never comes into my local record store. I've pestered the guy there for years about it. It's the only Van from his classic run that I don't have on vinyl. Well, except Tupelo Honey because I don't really care much for that one.

Oh yeah I have these 2, the Commodores one seems incredibly underrated. It aint no Lionel Richie Dancing on the Ceiling BS!



Astral Weeks - bought this on CD but it sounded so damn shrill and horrid. His voice was just piercingly terrible. Replaced it with a CASSETTE copy which sounds awesome.

Yeah, early Commodores were much more collaborative, and Richie would only emerge as the band's 'hitmaker' later in the decade.


I remember the initial CD version of Weeks which suffered from the thin mastering of 1st gen CDs. Both of these have been remastered in recent years.


Of the others, I like his debut, which is probably best, at this point, to pick up as The Bang Masters, with great tracks like "TB Sheets" and "He Ain't Give You None" and some rarities like "Joe Harper Saturday Morning" and "The Back Room".


Hard Nose The Highway is one you can find cheap, and it's not great, but I like it better than some fans do. Not everything works on it, but it's not as samey and predictable as Tupelo. I've been talking to crumbsroom recently about Common One, which is another really overlooked gem.
