Hello,

I’m looking for help trying to remember the name of a movie I saw probably about 10 to15 years ago, so it would have come out in the mid 2000s probably.

It was a relatively low budget independent action flick that took place over a night. Some c list action star was trying to solve the murder of a prostitute friend. I think he worked as her bodyguard or similar. She was killed because she stole money from her pimp to give to him.

The star was your typical white, young 30s, brunette action guy. He wasn’t super powered or anything and the movie treated him as pretty human. He wasn’t that bright and so was struggling to solve this murder of his friend.

The movie took place over a single night…I think. Was almost film noir but not quite.

The name was some kind of pun like “the day before tomorrow night” or something similar to that.

I just cannot recall the exact name. Any help appreciated.

I've found one you could take a look at, Midnight Heat (2007).
It's not a perfect match but -- it's an Independant movie with some of the things you've described.

From IMDb:
".....A story of cops, hookers, killers, and pimps; all centered around one sleazy night in the late 1980s...."

Thanks for the try, but definitely not that. The movie I am thinking of was actually... good. I recall that I heard about it from a critic's top ten list. There were also no cops involved in this movie... and hardly any guns. The good guy mostly just beat people up using martial arts.

Thanks but no.

Alas, in the movie I am thinking off, the prostitute dies at the start and is the reason for the action hero to go around and kick ass/avenge her. She is only seen in flashbacks I think.

Also, no…big…stars like Lou diamond Phillips. The male action star, I think was only ever in b movies or similar. Never had a big hit.

It's good hint, because I think about actor similar to your description. Maybe Jeff Wincott (known from B movies), but I didn't find any movie about similar plot.

Are you sure that it was movie? Maybe T.J. Hooker (1982–1986) TV series and episode - Sweet Sixteen and Dead ?
A young prostitute is killed by her pimp which was witnessed by a former prostitute who works at a shelter that helps them. Hooker tries to find her before the pimp.

Here's a possibility -- lots of martial arts too by the look of it.

'The Girl from the Naked Eye' (2012)

'The Girl from the Naked Eye' (2012)
scallywag - It's interesting guess. Description from IMDB:
Jake is a driver for a seedy escort service operating out of 'The Naked Eye strip club', he's a street thug type who falls for a witty high-class escort named Sandy. Except one night Sandy is found murdered, the only clues left behind are cell phone calls made the night she died. To avenge Sandy's death Jake must risk everything and walk a bloody path to find her killer.

That's definitely it! I was close with the description, a bit off with the year and title.

Thanks SOOOOO much.

Now I just need to figure out how to watch it again.

....close with the description....
Yes, the description was pretty good - and it was a bit puzzling why this film was proving so hard to identify. Obvious search terms like 'pimp', 'prostitute', 'hooker' etc. were not finding any matches.

In case anyone is interested, the magic word (search term) that finally did the trick was - 'avenge'.
