That right there IS the Criterion Collection then.

It's not a problem until you spend $300 on a Gamera box set.
I spent $130 on a Friday the 13th box set and have almost bought that Gamera set more than once...

Here’s a link to my movie collection. It’s probably easier to sort by studio and look at the Criterions.

I’ve been hardcore collecting movies since I was 12 so... It’s unreasonable at this point

I have almost bought that Gamera set more than once...
I fully intended to buy it when it was announced but that was before I knew the cost.
I mean, I can technically afford it I guess. My rent will still be paid and stuff. I'm just struggling to justify that one.

I THINK there’s a simpler reprint edition that’s about half the normal cost ($150) that’s almost certainly going to end up in my collection.

I'm insanely jealous. That is a fantastic collection. Over here in the UK there are rarely any sales on the Criterion collection and when they do, it's all the cheaper ones. I've only got a few and haven't even watched all the ones I own:

Yi Yi
The Last Temptation of Christ
Solaris
Oharu
L'Avventura

I only buy Blu Rays though not DVDs. Is that Night of the Hunter that you own the Blu or DVD? The Blu is incredibly expensive, and one that I would love to own.

From what I see on their site, it looks like they're going to split the films into the Showa and Heisei eras and release them as separate box sets. The total looks to be less than what the original set was going for, but it also looks like they lack all the bells and whistles of the original set.

Ah, yeah. That’s what they’re doing. They usually release basic sets after their original prints go OOP. So far, they’ve done it with Sartana, Female Prisoner, Stray Cat, and Taisho.

I'll probably pick up these split sets at a sale

None. Sadly little to no resale value over here for when I'm gone.

lol, that must be the most low-brow Criterion list ever. No fancy-shmancy French New Wave for this guy!

Also, I recently sold my Eisenstein box set for some sweet coin. I can now stream it in higher-than-DVD quality so I figured I'd cash in now while it's still out of print.

I own maybe 20. I watched 3 Tarkovsky's a few months ago. The others have been collecting dust on my self still in the plastic wrap.

I have The Night of the Hunter on DVD. And thanks, by the way. Though my collection isn't as big as some of the other ones in this thread, I'm happy I own a few lesser known films from the collection (Cameraperson, George Washington, For All Mankind).

Of the ones you own, I've seen all of them except for The Last Temptation of Christ and I love those three. You're in for a treat!

Here you go:

Ballad of a Soldier
Berlin Alexanderplatz
Brazil
Fanny & Alexander
Insomnia
La Haine
Le Belle et la Bete
Le Jetee/San Soleil
Le Samourai
Paris Texas
Playtime
Ran
Rashomon
Rififi
Seven Samurai
Slacker
Solaris
The Hidden Fortress
The Last Emperor
The Third Man
The Tin Drum
Three Colors Trilogy
Videodrome

I've watched them all except for Berlin Alexanderplatz, which will probably remain the white elephant of my collection for a long time.

My favorite Criterion is one I don't own anymore: Silence of the Lambs. It has commentary tracks by Anthony Hopkins and a consulting FBI agent as well as disturbing yet interesting essays from actual serial killers. I foolishly got rid of it because it didn't look good on widescreen TVs. I'm sure it's worth a fortune now.
