A Song For October

Tools

Ozzy Osbourne - I Don't Wanna Stop § alt link if needed - It's Ozzy and it's different for today. It was a shoo-in with me anyway.

The Steve Miller Band - Abracadabra - It's familiar and I like it, but even I made the mistake of choosing the longer version. Bad decision for this round.

Kite - True Colors - I wish it was about 3 minutes long rather than 5 but it's OK.

kokushoku elegy - yume no naru koro - I quite like this but don't really know why. A bit shorter and it'd probably be higher.

Sidewalks And Skeletons - Blood - It just happened. it'll probably do well with me for not being bland or soft.

Gleaming Spires - Are You Ready for the Sex Girls - It's 80's and I love the 80's. Lucky to finish this high but it's been a bad round for me.

Rex Defunctis - Alucarda - Not something I really listen to. It just plays while I sit there. Not unpleasant just not my thing.

T.G. Sheppard ~ Do You Wanna Go To Heaven - It's not going to be last because it's got a bit of life to it.

Anna von Hausswolff - Källans återuppståndelse - Sadly all these are kind of blending into one. It's odd how sometimes we all seem to produce a round like this every tournament? We must be picking up on cues from somewhere.

REM - Electrolite - Should be called Nightswimminglite. Again, nice, but nothing which stands out.

Electric Owls - "Magic Show" - I think my brain has trickled down the back of my neck and, while it's not the fault of this song, it's the straw which broke the camels back and I'm sorry to whoever nom'ed it because it doesn't deserve it.

Circle Kuato:
My next nom requires NO introduction. Movie or track.

Prince - Partyman

No need, but dude. IT's PRINCE!!!!!! from BATMAN (1989)!?!?!!! I fought long and hard with myself on whether this or Batdance gets my nom this round. I figured Batdance might still be overplayed, but it is such a great track. I was too young for earlier Prince with Purple Rain, but with the Batman soundtrack and me crawling JUST into the lower edge of my teen years, Batdance woke me up to a new musical reality. Samples, funk, bass lines, and grooves that just don't stop. OKOKOK who am I kidding. I change my nom. It is now Batdance.

Got that, @Chyp?

I've seen the future and it will be.....
Prince - Batdance

GO.... GO.... with a SMILE!!!!!! Especially after that guitar solo. This song is an experience in and of itself! STOP THE PRESS!!!! WHO IS THAT!!!!??? Why that's Prince. Duh? All this and brains too? Seriously. I try to avoid all this, but I can't! ooh yeah... oooh yeah. Check it out. Devils, moonlight, dancing, what's not to love? VOCAL HARMONIES speaking. THIS COMP NEEDS AN ENEMA!!!!

don't stop dancin'
(have u ever heard of the healing power of laughter?)

Let the night air cool you off
I'll pop back in.

Usually when I nominate country songs, it's me trying to find something @Captain Spaulding would be into. "Seminole Wind" was an exception, because it was a huge song and I kinda figured he'd have heard it before. The next song I'm nominating is one I'm sure he's heard, but I think he's a fan of this guy too.

Cody Jinks - Somewhere in the Middle

Cap, did I introduce you to Nick Shoulders? I remember nominating one of his songs where he's just chilling in the Ozarks somewhere.

That elusive hide-and-seek cow is at it again
Round 4 nom:
Ray Parker Jr. - Ghostbusters

Considering the theme, you know it had to happen. May as well be early so you're not waiting any longer.

Dangit! Muh THEME!!!!?!
Luckily, this hasn't popped on my radar yet.

The trick is not minding
Round 4 nom:

Considering the theme, you know it had to happen. May as well be early so you're not waiting any longer.
This is the song. That’s it. It’s over. End the round and just award it.
Dissenters will get slimed.

Round 4

1. Cody Jinks - Somewhere in the Middle
(Possibly the best thing going in country music today.)

2. Nick Shoulders - Too Old to Dream
(I definitely think he's a bit of an acquired taste, which perhaps explains why I wasn't too taken with him at first when @jiraffejustin nominated "Snakes & Waterfalls" in a past tournament, or maybe I was too distracted by the mullet and yodeling to appreciate that I was witnessing a modern-day country music unicorn.)

3. Blues Saraceno - Judgement Day
(The lack of musical variance means this song would likely grow stale on replays, but as a one-time listen it suits my tastes quite well.)

4. Buck-Tick - Dress
(Normally the vocal style in these Japanese rock songs is a deal breaker for me, but the vocals were a highlight for me here. Good song, mellow vibes, though a tad overlong.)

5. Buzzcocks - Fiction Romance
(Wish the scales were tilted a little more toward punk than pop, but a solid listen nonetheless.)

6. Ray Parker Jr. - Ghostbusters
(Mostly survives on nostalgia nowadays.)

7. Prince - Batdance
(Countless times I've danced with the devil in the pale moonlight, but this is my first time ever watching the "Batdance" music video, so this was a special joy. I should dress up as Prince's half-Batman, half-Joker for Halloween.)

8. Band of Skulls - Wanderluster
(Lacks that extra something to separate it from similar sounding songs/bands, but I wouldn't turn the station if it came on the radio.)

9. Lionel Richie - Running with the Night
(Sounds very dated and corny nowadays, but still possesses a certain charm.)

10. Wardell - Opossum
(Spielberg's children, eh? I'm only familiar with the unattractive one who's trying to be a porn star. This indie rock sound seems a bit cut and paste, but it's a decent, airy listen.)

11. Weezer - Island in the Sun
(Never been a fan.)

12. Kermit the Frog - Rainbow Connection
(What's green and slimy and smells like bacon? Kermit's finger.)
