Round 8

1. Lydia Loveless - Bad Way to Go
(I guess this is what you call "cow punk," combining the fiery energy of punk with banjos and honkytonk. Whatever it's called, I dig it, as well as Loveless's alcohol-soaked songwriting skills.)

2. Wailin Storms - Rattle
(This is sorta what I expected from that Dead Confederates band a couple rounds ago. I've listened to this three times now because I wasn't sure what to say about it. I still don't, but the song has gotten better with each listen. At times it feels like the instruments are too piled on top of each other, but that's probably just a YouTube quality thing. Love the intro and outro, and the raging energy of the middle quickly grew on me. Was initially going to compare the sound to Kings of Leon, but this quickly morphed into something far different and superior.)

3. Sturgill Simpson - Poor Rambler
(A knee-slapping good time. I love how evocative this music is of a time and place. Such character and tradition.)

4. Ricky Van Shelton - Statue of a Fool
(Looks like I need to give Van Shelton a closer look. Also LOL at the thought of honeykid's reaction to the end of this round.)

5. Deicide - Blame It on God
(Makes me feel like I can run through a brick wall. Pure adrenaline.)

6. Timbuk3 - The Future's So Bright I Gotta Wear Shades
(Listening to this on the heels of "Blame It on God" makes an already hokey song sound even hokier, but I like the down-home sound and I appreciate a good harmonica.)

7. chemilco - Easy Breezy
(I don't honestly know if I liked this or not. It's oddly compelling, yet simultaneously exhausting. It might just be the video, but it reminded me of a theme song to a kid's show but on acid. For some reason I even thought I heard an echo of the "Macarena" at one point, but that might've just been a brief flash from a dying brain cell. An English translation would be nice.)

8. Pixies - Hey
(I've given up trying to get into the Pixies.)

9. Eminem ft. Nate Dogg - Till I Collapse
(That clapping beat is grating enough. Mix it with Em's whiny flow and this is quite the annoying cocktail. Nate Dogg's chorus would sound good in a club, at least, but I don't go to clubs.)

I'll be back later tonight or tomorrow with my nom for the next round.

The Future's So Bright I Gotta Wear Shades - Timbuk3 - I've always loved this song. I remember it in the 80's but don't think I really listened to it until the 90's.

chelmico - Easy Breezy - Oh yeah, I'm going with this. Loving the slide guitar too.

Wailin Storms - Rattle - Ooh, I'm liking this. It has that feel of early 70's metal/rock with heavy percussion

Pixies - Hey - I quite like the Pixies, but never loved them. Very much of their time though and that's a time I love.

Eminem ft. Nate Dogg - Till I Collapse - It's Eminem. It sounds like Eminem.

Deicide - Blame It on God - I decided not to. But I didn't hate it and it was blissfully short.

Lydia Loveless - Bad Way to Go - Ummm. I've listened to this twice now because I don't know where to put it.

Sturgill Simpson - Poor Rambler - I'm liking that these country songs are pretty short. Apart from the singers are they any different though? That's a rhetorical question

Ricky Van Shelton - Statue Of A Fool - After the last two I appreciated that this was more mellow, but sadly, that didn't really help on this occasion. It's been a while since 3 minutes felt that long.

Alright. I can read between the lines of Shoutbox threats against immediate family members (), so I'll make a new r11nom. I watched uh... The Next Three Days (? too lazy to look it up to know if that's the right title), and the first credits track got my attention. Kinda poppy, but interesting and a bit playful. Was a track from The Like. I looked them up and kinda dig them. Tracks can get a bit repetitive but I'm surprised I've not heard more from them.

The Like - Don't Make a Sound
