That elusive hide-and-seek cow is at it again
Started listening last night, then all hell broke loose with the weather. Has @doubledenim posted yet this morning? The wind (not gas, lol. smartass) was moving north after it knocked us about for a bit. I got a deadline today but should be good to pick back up this afternoon.

(Ye Gods this socialising is draining isn't it, but I do think I'm beginning to get the hang of it)

Nena - 99 Luftballons - This might just be familiarity because I really did like Anthem a lot. But I've always loved this song.

Anthem - Wild Anthem - That's better. If you're gonna rock, then rock!

Black Pumas - Colors - Liked this a lot. First listen but not the last. On a more soulful day, this be higher.

Night Ranger - Sister Christian - Lots of familiarity. Never a favourite, but it's nice to listen to. It's like false memory for me, it's nostalgia for a time I didn't experience with this soundtrack.

Filthy Boy - That Life - Didn't know this. Liked it.

King Diamond - Behind These Walls - King Diamond always takes me back to my mid teens. Almost always something I like listening to but he was never a favourite. Probably because I didn't have any money and Iron Maiden were my most listened to stuff.

Beastie Boys - In 3's - I quite like the Beasties in most their guises. This isn't a favourite but it passes the time.

Twin Temple - Lucifer, My Love § (alt link if needed) - As background music it'd be OK. Sounds like something which'd play in the background in Pulp Fiction or Twin Peaks, but not something I think I'd listen to again.

Rush - Subdivisions - Ah, Rush. Sorry, I just don't get it. Never have and probably never will. Again, not anything which was around here much. I remember being disappointed when GNR got a keyboard player.

Nick Shoulders - Snakes & Waterfalls - Sounds like a Luau in a 50's movie. Not something I'd want to hear at the best of times, but the whistling really hurt. My ears don't like me very much atm.

Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood - In Another's Eyes - Sorry, this is just too much. It's almost everything I dislike about modern country wrapped up in one package. But then I could probably say that about most GB stuff I've heard.

Round 6:
1. Black Pumas - Colors
2. Filthy Boy - That Life
3. Nena - 99 Luftballons
4. Nick Shoulders - Snakes & Waterfalls
5. Beastie Boys - In 3's
6. Night Ranger - Sister Christian
7. Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood - In Another's Eyes
8. Twin Temple - Lucifer, My Love
9. Anthem - Wild Anthem
10. Rush - Subdivisions
11. King Diamond - Behind These Walls

Round 6

1. Twin Temple - Lucifer, My Love
(The song's a bit long in the fang, but I love the vintage stylings and melodies mixed with the occult. It's like an alternate history where Satanism was chic in the 50's/60's.)

2. Filthy Boy - That Life
(Love the lyrics and the boozy delivery.)

3. Black Pumas - Colors
(Impressive. Soulfulness that sounds both modern and retro. Me digs it.)

4. Rush - Subdivisions
(Certainly a good song that I don't mind hearing, but it's never quite done it for me like a lot of the other well-known Rush songs. Too much keyboard, perhaps?)

5. King Diamond - Behind These Walls
(I assume King Diamond keeps his nuts in a permanent vice grip to be able to hit those high notes with such consistency. Based on what little I've listened to him, he verges dangerously close to parody. No doubting the talent, however.)

6. Anthem - Wild Anthem
(Definitely a bit overlong and self-indulgent, but it's fun to watch a band get off on their instruments and just rock the hell out.)

7. Nick Shoulders - Snakes and Waterfalls
(This dude is clearly the genuine article. I wish the song was nothing but yodeling and bird-whistling because those parts were awesome, but I wasn't a fan of the actual singing.)

8. Nena - 99 Luftballons
(Despite being almost 40-years-old(!), I think there's a strong chance this would be a hit even today. It doesn't sound anywhere near as dated as a lot of other hits from the 80's.)

9. Beastie Boys - In 3's
(Apparently all I need to enjoy a Beastie Boys song is just for them shut up and not rap. This was actually pretty fun and funky in a skatepark kinda way.)

10. Night Ranger - Sister Christian
(Even when I used to eat up everything hair metal, this song still did nothing for me, sounding more like an easy-listening group grandma would enjoy than anything remotely rock n' roll.)

11. Garth Brooks & Trisha Yearwood - In Another's Eyes
(If only it was in another's ears. Can't stand Garth. This sounds like almost every other lame country ballad duet of the 90's.)

That elusive hide-and-seek cow is at it again
@Derek Vinyard

I usually don't get to see your animated avatar because like 93% of the time I'm on mobile; but I'm always tickled by how much I love that thing wiggly wolf whenever I do get to see it. That cracks me up every time.

(edited to reduce the amount of flack I'm probably going to receive for this post)

hahahaha from the movie Creep I genuinely love that movie

That elusive hide-and-seek cow is at it again
  1. Black Pumas - Colors: Excellent song. Great vocal range, nice, mellow feel, and there's even a groovy electric piano in there. Nice.
  2. Nena - 99 Luftballons: Always a lovely, catchy song, in spite of its translation. Makes for a great scene transition in The Watchmen too!
  3. Beastie Boys - In 3's: I just wanted to put up something that's not quite in their normal wheelhouse. It's got a nice groove, is bite-sized, and has some interesting syncopation in that bass line.
  4. Anthem - Wild Anthem: Nice. I would have totally bought this cassette in the late 80s, if I had known about them. This would have destroyed what all we were listening to at the time. Huh. I had to google a bit here but found this was released, originally, in 1985. Sounds great even from back then. Yeah. If I knew what a Tokyo was back then and how to order music from it, this definitely would have been at the top of my tape stack. Great album cover too. I can kind of see Faith No More borrowing a bit from it for their The Real Thing release. No clue. Just looks similar.
  5. Nick Shoulders - Snakes & Waterfalls: Ha. Fun song. The novelty of it alone puts it high in my list. How many songs cover yodeling and whistles? In all seriousness though, I think whistling is becoming a lost art form. I just don't hear enough of it apart from maybe a brief intro or as a backing track.
  6. Filthy Boy - That Life: Sweet! More whistlin'!!!
  7. Twin Temple - Lucifer, My Love § (alt link if needed): Wow. Who woulda imagined this!? Gorgeous voice, if not a bit too hot on that mic here and there. With the lack of diversity, I'd cut this track in half and it would be pretty good.
  8. Night Ranger - Sister Christian: I was JUST on the outer edge of this time. 1983 I wasn't much aware of music yet beyond radio background noise on car rides to where ever with mom. I was just catching glimpses of MTV options around then at friends' houses, and that mostly included groups like Duran Duran, Eurythmics, and uh Culture Club type stuff. Oh, and of course Michael Jackson. My dad was probably in the window for Night Ranger, driving his Dodge Daytona as I lay in the hatchback staring up into the stars. I probably blocked it somewhat, to counter him.
  9. Rush - Subdivisions: Still not a fan of Rush, but I can get the appeal. Musical math nerdy rockers probably flocked to this. I mean that in a good way, as their music is quite complex IMO. There's a lot there to decompress and analyze as a listener. If not for his voice, I could probably dig this similarly to how I enjoy Tool. But that voice....
  10. King Diamond - Behind These Walls: Too much banshee-belting voice for me! I think I saw an Iron Maiden nom pop up....
  11. Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood - In Another's Eye: Though Yearwood is pretty hot in her country jawline kinda way, I just despise Garth Brooks and the 90's forced voice cracking bit so prevalent in that decade. There is very little pop-country from that decade that I can tolerate, though.

Everyone's put in their ballots again so here's the result for Round 6:

1st - Nena - 99 Luftballons (90 pts)

2nd - Black Pumas - Colors (77 pts)
3rd - Filthy Boy - That Life (75 pts)
4th - Anthem - Wild Anthem (73 pts)
5th - King Diamond - Behind These Walls (69 pts)
6th - Nick Shoulders - Snakes & Waterfalls (68 pts)
6th - Rush - Subdivisions (67 pts)
8th - Night Ranger - Sister Christian (61 pts)
9th - Twin Temple - Lucifer, My Love (60 pts)
10th - Beastie Boys - In 3's (49 pts)
11th - Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood - In Another's Eyes (37 pts)

Grats to hk on moving a tune on to the Final

Round 7 up shortly......

Mr. Wootf takes a break, leaving just the ten of us to duke it out this time....

N.B. Am hoping the alt link to our resident murderous clown's nomination is okay, sounds ok to my ears but prolly best to wait a while before voting so he can get back to me once he's finished playing with his latest victim.
That alt link is fine. I initially started to use that same video as my link until I realized it was fan made. The song itself is the same. Sorry for picking xenophobic links twice in a row.

No worries, ta for getting back so quickly. I'll remove the NBs now

  1. Iron Maiden - 2 Minutes To Midnight
  2. Dead Confederate - The Rat
  3. Wishbone Ash - The King Will Come (thought about nomming something from Argus a few times myself)
  4. Gravediggaz - 1-800 Suicide
  5. Def Leppard - Foolin'
  6. The Warning - Narcicista
  7. Mozart - Sonata for Two Pianos in D Major, I Allegro con spirito
  8. Sufjan Stevens - Mystery of Love
  9. George Strait - Take Me Back to Tulsa (Live)
  10. A Day To Remember - The Plot to Bomb the Panhandle

My R8 nom (prolly for CT fans like me only I think, but we shall see):
Double Echo - Felix & Tantrum

Iron Maiden - 2 Minutes To Midnight - I need familiarity atm so going on a search for new stuff isn't where my head is. That said, this will probably still be the best song in this round IMO.

The Warning - Narcicista - As it's a live performance I worry a little, but as I don't know the song it's probably fine. Turns out, yes, I like the song. I'd happily listen to it again.

Gravediggaz - 1-800 Suicide § (alt link if needed) - Has this been nominated before? It seems familiar and not just the style. Maybe I just stumbled across it at another time? I like it though I could've done without the drawn out outro.

Mozart - Sonata for Two Pianos in D Major, I Allegro con spirito - Nice and bouncy Mozart. Worked well today as it's nice and bright outside as this is playing.

Sufjan Stevens - Mystery of Love - Now this had a lovely feel to it. Just right for the day I'm having and the weather outside. Not something I can see myself returning to, but for now, it's a good match.

George Strait - Take Me Back to Tulsa (Live) - If we're going to do Country, this is much better than Garth Brooks for me.

Wishbone Ash - The King Will Come - For fantasy themed musical twiddling this wasn't too bad. Really did like the guitar solo in the middle, but the whole thing went on a little too long for me. But that's normal for me with this genre.

Dead Confederate - The Rat - Not bad, just started to overstay it's welcome with me but ended before it became annoying or tiring.

Def Leppard - Foolin' - Def Leppard? They're ok and did do some really good songs, but soft rock ballads aren't often my thing. Especially if I didn't listen to them when they were released, which I didn't with this. I can't even remember listening to it before today.

A Day To Remember - The Plot to Bomb the Panhandle - It's ok. It's like some took the Backstreet Boys of rock at sped them up a little bit.
