As well as playing a damned good game of Tetris - which reminds me I must log into the ongoing Tetris 99 tournament - it's got such a feel-good energy about it.

A lovely, special game. No surprise it's from the guy behind Rez and Lumines.

I've been having a lot of fun with Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fueled, even though I've played the game constantly in my childhood and went back and played through the campaign a year ago, I've found that the additions have added a lot of new entertainment to be had. I'm fighting my hand to end in the final 5% of the Grand Prix, and thus far, it looks like I should be able to do so.

Slight distraction. Well, I guess Legendary critters just give Legendary skins. That's a good thing because I misfired on the elk last night and had to shoot it a few times while it ran in circles. WOOOOO! I was worried I'd end up with a poor quality skin with no respawn. I've only just entered the area NE of Fort Wallace. Nice change of visuals here. That's where I randomly entered the Legendary Elk zone. Neat. Weird though as I've found two horses randomly roaming on their own in this area. I mean they are saddled but without a rider. One even had a dead deer stowed on it. Just walking along doing their things. Also, I've noticed a LOT of animals just die and fall over randomly as I approach on roadways. These are deer and boar mostly that I've noticed in various map locations. Once I watched a buffalo just drop. Thing is, I wouldn't have seen them in the distance had they not fallen over dead. By the time I get to them, they're either rotted or skinned but no hunter or other predatory animals that might have attached them. If that can even happen.

Just a few observations, I guess. Oh. I was ambushed by a gang the other night heading into a town. I've been held up on a covered bridge once, but this was more elaborate where a scout was higher up on a ledge. As I rode by he whistled and started to run down hill towards the road. His gang was just up ahead of me and rushed me on horseback, chasing me all the rest of the way into town. That was interesting. At first, I assumed I must have a bounty but no. It was just a random gang waiting. I wish that would happen more often as it really surprised me. I have stumbled upon a few camps, while exploring off lesser trails. but not as many ambushes as described.

I wish I could carry more than one larger skin, like alligator, elk, bear, etc. It's a severe annoyance to ride one roll all the way back to camp for PART of a camp upgrade of all of $3.75 value. I get more value from fencing random jewelry loot but that's sometimes difficult to find as missions usually cut short my potential loot time either having NPs nag me and leave me behind or NPC law coming in to investigate soon after a shootout.

Ah well. Weather changes from one area to another are great and beautiful when lightning flashes. The swamp area is creep as hell early morning, foggy, with very little light to see ahead. OK. I'm shutting up now.

Online has a surprising number of ambushes from npcs.

Maybe going a bit far, but I've seen people rope and tame an extra horse before going hunting just so they can have an extra space for large pelts.

Late to the party, but playing The Witcher 3 for the first time. Saw TV series teaser. Wanted to start with something and understand what's this whole thing is about.

Post up your thoughts as you get into it. I'm curious. Been on the fence to try it but nothing ever pushes me over.

Anyone taken a shot with The Sinking City yet? Saw it released and looked it up on PSN. Lot of DLC on the first day =/ $75 for a collection? I'm not too thrilled about that at all considering the reviews.

Also saw Darkwood on sale. Looks interesting. Anyone tried this one yet?

I'll post mine:

* Amazing beards
* Some great acting chops in the mix
* You can stumble on side quests that feel like main quests, sometimes triggered or altered by main-story actions.
* Wonderful world creation, from magical creatures to sweeping weather to emotive landscapes to embedded lore
* Crazy attention to detail. You can chop twigs off trees while swinging your sword wildly from your horse. This stuff can really add up.
* The 'follow the mystical trail' detective work is a cool little change of speed, and normally used well.
* Really underwhelming core combat, no matter how hard you try to specialise in a style or handicap yourself for greater challenge .

Never saw the game out, and it was mainly due to that last point. (And only partially due to me just doing side-quests all the time )

Glad I played it though

I will say again: Play The Witcher III!!!!!

Hands down the best western RPG. Agree that the core combat is the chink in the armor, but for me, it's a pretty minor one. That said, the combat isn't bad, it's just not very deep.

Beards!

The biggest problem with it is that roll is so OP. I could get myself into battles I definitely couldn't win, but I knew full well that I could roll my way around them for eternity if I fancied . That lack of threat takes a huge edge off of things somehow.

Just that and the lack of meatiness, and somewhat button-mashy nature of the offensive routines. The whole skill tree never meshed with me and the magic just never quite made up for that core clunkiness. The pre-prep aspect of the potions etc felt tactical perhaps but... not in an exciting way. (I did like the way lore gathering helped you fight beasties though). The whole silver sword thing was just a grind-doubler, impacting gameplay barely at all.

Strip away all the excellent stuff in W3, and it's core game mechanic is really pretty unexceptional, is what I'm saying I guess.

I did love some of the surprises though...

WARNING: spoilers below
When a Wyvern, or whatever those mid-sized dragon things were, tucked its wings in and followed me into a castle . That was pretty grand

Still play it though yn

Meanwhile: I am neck-deep in NMS now. I have a couple of bases established, and I have acquired a couple of nice frigates to send out on missions from my freighter. One quest sent me bouncing around the galaxy a bit, so I am actually not quite sure where I am at the moment. If things get too crazy, I can always pop into the nearest space station and warp back home.

Ahh, that's not a problem. I'm more of "game as a whole" person. Some minor things won't matter if atmosphere and journey is still worth experiencing. I'm sure combat isn't that bad either. I have played worse. Gothic for example. It's combat was weird, but manageable. I think will choose "blood" difficulty cause want some challenge and not going to rush through game anyway so not big deal if get to hard encounters. Only thing which I will remove are these white dots. Didn't like this type of stuff in modern GTAs and Mafia 2 where game just tells You exact route to objective.

oh yes, I still haven't started Witcher 3 (only tested a bit) cause I'm simply a bit too deep into Metro Exodus. Don't want to mix two games which both take a lot of time and attention.

Hm. RDR2 has finally gotten me yelling at the screen. 3 days I've trailed a second horse, both loaded with perfect elk, bear, etc. pelts. Horse gets spooked and runs head first into a tree throwing me over. Three wolves (or whatever, it's too fast to confirm) attack, taking 3 rounds to the chest each, deadeye depleted, and I die by zombie wolves that will NOT stay down!

Grr.

So two annoyances I've noticed: 1) controlling a horse through wooded areas or even small boulders is silly as gaps wide enough for carriages push me into another path around instead of between far too often; and 2) gunmen and small creatures do not go down with 3+ rounds to the chest.

On a good note, I like knowing where I am before, during, and after skinning something. RDR1 always turned me around, with all the sequence cuts, never ending facing the direction I started before skinning. So there's that.
