1. Lindi Ortega - Tin Star
(This woman has all the tools to be one of the biggest stars in country music, yet I'd never heard of her until jj introduced me to her awhile back.)
2. The Sisters of Mercy - Lucretia, My Reflection
(Very cool song. Sounds like a goth version of some of David Bowie's 80's output. One of the better first-time listens I've had in this tournament.)
3. Hellbound Glory - Better Hope You Die Young
(Tanya Tucker really elevates this song. She adds gravitas and authenticity with a voice that is strong but weathered. The lyrics feel more genuine coming from a throat that sounds like its played host to plenty of cigarettes and whiskey. The only problem is it makes the dude sound like a poser once he re-joins the song. Just not a big fan of his voice. At times he even sounds like country-mode Kid Rock.)
4. Primordial - Where Greater Men Have Fallen
(Loved the heaviness of the music and those apocalyptic riffs. I feel like the singer's voice should be harsher and more guttural to better complement the music. Sounds like he belongs in a different band. I like the anthemic, defiant chorus. For an 8+minute song, it went by pretty fast.)
5. King Crimson - 21st Century Schizoid Man
(Hated the vocals, but I like the organized chaos that captures a "schizoid" feeling.)
6. Beethoven - Pastoral Symphony, Movement 3
(Either ahwell has beaten me into submission with his powdered wig and baton, or these classical pieces are growing on me. A lovely, dainty, dynamic composition. I feel like I should be dancing and twirling on lily pads in a Walt Disney flick or something.)
7. Rammstein - Ich Tu Dir Weh
(Feel pretty indifferent toward this song, but I've appreciated the opportunity to hear some Rammstein during this tournament. As I said before, they're one of those bands whose name I'm very familiar with, but I've barely listened to any of their stuff. They're not quite what I expected . . . but in a good way.)
8. Colleen Lovett - Love Man
(Feels very unfocused/unstructured. Preferred the beginning when she was talking all sexy since her singing voice isn't anything special. The song peters out before it even seems to start.)
9. Tenerife Symphony Orchestra - Conan the Barbarian
(I can appreciate the cumulative talent on display, but this isn't interesting enough to make me want to listen to it outside the film. And I find Conan the Barbarian pretty damn overrated anyway.)
10. CAN - Oh Yeah
(Well, that's 7+ minutes of my life wasted.)
