For example, in "Paris Belongs to Us" (filmed in 1958), had a bar room scene, and it was funny hearing a background conversation in English, where a guy says, "I don't think Nixon is experienced enough. He's not independent. He's not likable" (with inaudible stuff in between), which is ironic, considering it was the knock on JFK (and his youth, also ironic considering that Nixon was only four years older). It was also interesting hearing what was said about American events in France, despite the man sounding like an ex-pat.



After the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia in 1787, Benjamin Franklin was asked what kind of government had they given the public. Franklin famously replied, "A republic, if you can keep it". We didn't.
