What should the next countdown be?

i get what you're saying and there are advantages and disadvantages of either way but i think it'd be interesting to get a snapshot of how we feel about the decade a few months after it's over when every other publication on the planet will be putting out their own best-of-the-decade list, then if we cycle through all of the decades again we'll get to it in another nine years or so and we can compare how our perspective has changed, assuming yoda doesn't get drunk one night and accidentally delete the board. if the deadline is around april 2020, i think that would give a decent shot for the 2019 films to be fairly considered.

plus, it makes a more organized process if we do {every decade ----> all-time -----> every decade redux}. however, if we do decide to hold off on a 2010s list until maybe late 2020 or 2021, i would suggest doing another genre in it's place or the all-time list if people don't feel like waiting any longer. then when the 2010s list does happen, we can go in order of {2010s ----> 2000s -----> 1990s ----> etc.}, but that's just the way my brain works and obviously it's up to the community. apparently making sure lists go in proper descending chronological order is the only way my ocd manifests itself.

Especially like that you included a pre-30s countdown...It would feel very incomplete not to include all movies in our MoFo countdowns. It be like a blot on our cinema-credibility. The pre 30s is huge with silent film greats, and some talkies too.

Those are details we could have argued about in another thread. But I was just spitballing ideas.

What does everyone think is a good amount of watch time for horror, 2-3 months? We having a horror HoF?

2-3 months sounds good to me. I probably won't join a horror HoF but it's a good idea to have one. Unless of course it's a 1950s scary Big insects horror HoF, then I'd join

I gave 3 months for the animation countdown and that seemed to work pretty well.

Horror again? Ridiculous.

After several long crazy days, I am certain of this- I crave simplicity in my life. For that reason, we are doing IMDb tags. If the movie is tagged HORROR on IMDb, it is eligible for vote on the countdown. If the movie is not tagged HORROR on IMDB, it is not eligible for vote. That's it. That's all.

Anything else is too elaborate.

Can I vote for Woman in the Dunes? Love at First Bite?

If there's one thing I've learned being a mod (not just here, but elsewhere), it's that any standard you choose can and will be made to look silly sometimes. Just the nature of trying to impose clear lines on a complicated reality.

Anyway, I think it's a smart choice that'll keep participation high and still produce a really solid list.

Has top 100 Porn been done yet?

Seriously though Horror seems to be the consensus.

I like the idea of War after that especially as there are so many to choose from.

Then I like Frightened's idea to do Top 100 of the 2010's perhaps in mid 2020 to allow late 2019 films to be seen, then its time again for another All time toward the end of 2020.
