The Friends of Eddie Coyle (1973)

This has long been one of my favorite movies of the 70s, which given the decade, is saying a lot.

A cold, nihilistic character study of an unlucky, doomed, aging mid-level crook, played in the titular role by Robert Mitchum - who gives a FLAWLESS performance.

Everything about this film is perfect - the acting, the dialogue, the directing, the cinematography that so expertly displays the bleak, unforgiving underbelly of 1970s Boston.

A truly great neo-noir, for anyone who loves the genre.

I haven't seen it yet, but since I have a feeling I'll be doing a Boston movie marathon soon, I'll get it and watch it when the mood hits.

I don't think any movie depicts 70s Boston as well as this.

Especially considering that most 70s crime flicks are DOMINATED by NY. Not that I don't love that, I'm a native New Yorker, but still..
