Is porn art?

The most loathsome of all goblins
Let's not forget excessive/weird piercings
That too, especially if they have their nether-region pierced. So gross. I am also turned off by long painted fingernails. It just screams street-walker to me.

Oh, and stripper heels

In what universe do these not make you look like a disgusting ho? Just ew

LOL, yeah. We could go on and on about this subject, it seems

I have an advanced degree in Science but haven't yet figured out what is sexy about spanking someone's buttocks.

Some people want to be punished, others want to do the punishing. Power games, domination and submission. It's not that hard to understand, I think it's primal.

If you want something strange, read up on female led relationships. Men who wear chastity devices and let their wives keep the key. Talk about kooky

In his explanation of why "All Art is quite useless", Oscar Wilde writes this:

Art is useless because its aim is simply to create a mood. It is not meant to instruct, or to influence action in any way. It is superbly sterile, and the note of its pleasure is sterility.

Pornography, too, could be Art, I'm afraid.

Sorry if I'm rude but I'm right
@Velvet, apart from repping you could also add something meaningful...

I dont want to bump it I guess

my input: yes porn is art and sex is one of the most intimate and powerful things us humans have. The idea of porn not being art comes from the stigma against sex and many peoples uncomfortability with it. This uncomfortability has lead to many dismissing it as trash when it is entirely not. I would like to view some arty porn someday tbh

is uncomfortability even a word

Oh my god. They're trying to claim another young victim with the foreign films.

I wouldn’t say porn isn’t art. But then I don’t know if I would say it is. Sex is perhaps one of the greatest forms of art, but porn is so different to making love. I will go and ponder this question some more.

Well lots of art (I'm not talking recent either, go back to classical and romantic art) is pornographic and erotic, which convolutes things.

Film is 100% art, so whether you draw distinctions between the real and the recreation of real (unreal, creation), is another matter in if that is your basis of answering the question.

Here's how I'd see the difference between nudity in art and porn.

Art: The "study" of the beauty of the human body. Tastefully, (sometimes not tastefully), presented for all to see, in all its glory.

Porn: A series of images, pictures, photos or a movie... made solely for the sexual gratification of the audience. Designed specifically for erotic satisfaction.
What about when the two switch places and the porn starts being less pleasurable and either introspective or disturbing, and the art becomes more self-indulgent and exhibitionist?

Sexuality and nudity have been a theme in art since the begining

You can't win an argument just by being right!

Exactly. Mapplethorpe immediately springs to mind as an example for this thread. Some people regard it as high art while others are outraged, clutch their pearls and call it porn.

On anothen level I'm sure Rancido Raymond who shoots a porno in his basement thinks it's art - it simply does not appeal to me to watch it. Each to their own.

Funny thing that just came to mind.

I'm at university and whenever whenever an ancient or classic painting/sculpture is shown to the class, the content being naked poses or even intercourse (as you'd see with the Greek statue a few pages back), it never raises an eyebrow but if it was the same thing but with actual people (in a photo), most people would feel really outraged or offended.

Is art vs reality an "uncanny valley" situation?

Nail on the head.
