Who else is a fan? Possibly the most underrated movie of the 90s. A terrific thriller with top notch performances with Bill Paxton, and BB Thornton.

Count me as a fan. Very few movies have left me as distressed as this one and the oppressive environment of a rural town in a seemingly eternal winter only adds to this feeling. A story about flawed characters who can't do right and suffer the consequences in ways that are brutal, ironic and disheartening. I felt really bad for them and the stellar performances only make this more permeating and expressive. God damn, Billy Bob Thornton in the car, that scene got me really hard.

It's fantastic, and I think it is Billy Bob Thornton's best performance behind Sling Blade. I have never seen someone depict a social misfit, a dejected soul, an alienated 'boy' stuck in a man's body as good as Thornton did. There is a beautiful reality to his performance, and while it may indeed seem implausible to some that a grown middle age man has never kissed a girl before or experienced any forms of intimacy, I assure you there are many people like this - perhaps in plain sight - that we see in our day-to-day lives.
The greatness of the film lies quite simply in its humanity - it's almost as if the Coen brothers woke up one morning and did not feel overtly nihilistic, so they made this.

Great movie, one of my favorites. I love movies where....WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
Another example of that, "Return To Paradise".

This was Sam Raimi's movie I liked most when he went mainstream.
Something to note; Ben Stiller actually did a bit of confidence coaching for Scott B. Smith, the screenwriter. So, you have this guy to thank for some of this film's power!

BBT indeed did a great job of portraying a man child.
The film is a great study on how a large sum of money can turn ordinary, otherwise good men, very ruthless under desperate circumstances.
