"It" was good. I wonder why all the adults in the film are lame or worse. Does it somehow re-enforce the theme of the movie or is it just in there?

Seven Psychopaths - 9/10 (My favourite movie ever)
The Guest - 8/10 (Very surprising, very fun thriller)
Nightcrawler - 8/10 (Just really good)
Kingsman: The Secret Service - 7/10 (Fun movie, amazing action, the church scene)
Despicable Me 3 - 3/10 (Disgusting for a kids movie)

It was nominated for 3.

Best Picture
Best Supporting Actress
Best Adapted Screenplay
Hidden Figures was a 2016 Best Picture nominee and Octavia Spencer was nominated for Supporting Actress...I can see Spencer's nomination but I really don't understand the Best Picture nomination.
That's really sad. Ah well, maybe I shouldn't be surprised considering what horrible performances actually do win Oscars, like Russel Crowe in Gladiator.

Just look at how many Oscars Meryl Streep has.

Baby Driver (2017)

I expected more. A lot of it didn't make sense, parts verged on making me cringe and the soundtrack really wasn't all THAT great. Still, was fairly entertaining and the driving scenes were good.

Yeah, pretty disappointed myself. Had been trying to get watching this since it was released. Found myself comparing it to Drive which is up there with my most recent favourites.

It (2017) (Dir. Muschietti)

The hype does this movie zero favors. Cary Fukunaga walking away from the project was a red flag I never should have ignored. Having watched part 1 of the mini series last week, I wasn't ready for dubstep, dutch angles, and editing I haven't been mistreated to since those "screamer" videos were popular around 2007. That isn't to say there aren't characters worth rooting for, but they aren't substantially different from their counterparts in Stranger Things or even Super 8. The major difference being vulgarity more reminiscent of a King adaptation like Stand by Me.

Sophia Lillis gets a lot of room to shine as Beverly Marsh, the most well defined character of the bunch. The film adequately portrays the sexual awakening she provides the boys, thankfully stopping short of the infamous scene from the novel. Despite Ben's relationship with Georgie still getting a lot of push, it feels rather obligatory, paling in comparison to Beverly's relationship with her father. A tasteful shot of Beverly with her back to the camera, baffled by the wide selection of tampons before her feels strangely out of place in a movie this loud and flagrant.

Regardless of my feelings, I encourage seeing it for yourself if only to support R rated horror being mainstream again. I think this falls short of part 1 of the mini series, a bit too shiny and obnoxious for my liking, but part 2 shouldn't be hard to out do.

The Verdict (1982)
Director: Sidney Lumet

An ambulance chasing alcoholic attorney's pilgrimage to self redemption is a dry affair but not without a tremendous performance by Paul Newman who really puts himself into this character.

A mass post of a few flicks I have watched recently.

I have been on a bit of a DC animated flick binge. Gotta get my DC fix in since the DCEU kinda sucks as a whole. Lucky for me these are some damn entertaining movies. I have not read the original comic (at least not yet), but I know enough about it to know the main story and a few differences in the movie. Either way, very enjoyable.

Had the Blu Ray on pre-order. A heavy emphasis on comedy but still plenty of fight scenes. Though I admit why it required Harley Quinn to remember that fire works really well against plants was kinda lame, the pluses HEAVILY out weight any gripes I have.

Expanding the Bat family by two. We bring in Batwoman and Batwing to help Dick and Damion rescue Bruce. The plot and cast was a tad over stuffed, but the pay off was there. Worth the while.

Now this was a lot of fun! I got to see a bunch of lesser known and lesser adapted comic characters fight the big bad of the movie. It was cool to see John Constatine as a closer adaptation of his comic persona. Now I admit I know next to nothing about the guy, but this movie makes me curious to check out some of his back issues. And it was nice to see the likes of Zatanna, Deadman and Etrigan in a much bigger focus then in previous series and movies. And they kept Etigan as a rhyming Demon too. Which was nice. Sure the sheer amount of English cockney slang seemed like the voice actor was trying to over compensate so he could hammer in the "yes I am British" thing. But minor gripe aside, this was a great flick.

I know I have said that Kiss Me Deadly is my favorite Noir; I have to change my mind and say Double Indemnity is. I admit while I still love Kiss Me Deadly, Double Indemnity I just seem to return to more. It might not have the Cold War themes of Kiss Me Deadly, but it does have a lot of the other Noir tropes I love. Amoral characters, ordinary people who make terrible choices and suffer for it, the morality lesson feel of the flick, and the movie was a very tightly woven plot written by Billy Wilder and Raymond Chandler himself.

Great writing, great direction, and carried by great actors leads to what I have to say is my personal favorite Noir film.

Not a movie, but I something I watched nonetheless. My brother is bigger into anime then I am, and him knowing my tastes and sense of humor, suggested I watch this and he let me borrow his copy of the series. After my long road trip from south Florida back to north Texas, I REALLY did not want to go out and do much of anything. So I popped this in and binged watched it. I thought it was damn funny. Imagine a world where a social movement that marries the uptight and using politics to enforce morality of the Religious Right is married with the language policing, data mining, and humor neutering of the Social Justice Left. You get a world where not only is everyone monitored by electronic devices, Japan has become even more sexually repressed then it already is, and the telling of a saucy joke or even bad language is outlawed. Even daring to do so gets someone arrested or branded a terrorist. Leading to the main hero getting caught up in dirty joke terrorism

A series whose humor is bluer then the state of California, follows the life of Tanukichi Okuma bring dragged into ero-terrorism (never knew sex terrorism to be a thing) by Ayame Kajou (aka Blue Snow). They do heir best to essentially trigger the powers that be by doing everything from spreading filthy humor to distributing hand drawn pornography. All while attending a very prestigious "public morals" high school.

I admit I am not big on high school based anime unless there is a unique twist or gimmick. This one certainly counted. And I will admit even I was taken aback by just how crude the series could be. But it was funny as hell, so no matter there. It was worth my while.
