Anyone Ever Watch a Foreign Movie NO Subtitles?

I did watch La Reine Margot once since it was on YouTube, but without any English subs, and I really wanted to watch it so I braved it.

I had to turn it off after an hour. I could only get the jist of a few sentences here and there

If Japanese porn doesn't count, I got nothing.

I once had to watch Christane F. for my german class, and we got a link to the movie on youtube without subtitles. I gave up rather quickly.

I also think I'd give up quickly... I'd like to watch a Spanish movie with no subtitles, since I can get around with the language. From my experiences, the best way to learn a language is when you have no cushion, having no other choice.

Yeah I think that sounds reasonable, but you got to have the motivation for it as well, or else you do like me and just quit.

Don't know if it's a made up story or not, but apparently an amercian collage professor conducted a study some time in the 80s wherein he placed 15 american teenagers (without any prior knowledge of french) in french towns with french families throughout Bourdoux and left them there for 12 weeks. When the 12 weeks were over, 12 of them could speak the language almost fluently, while the other three could speak passably. Intence exposure and no other choice seems to work.

I watched Bresson's Mouchette without any subtitles, and the film still worked. Due to Bresson's reliance on imagery and gesture, the film still made perfect sense to me.

Yeah, there isn't that much dialogue anyway, and the images are clear... I was having troubles with the subtitles being synced properly, and while I was watching Bresson's "A Gentle Woman" I had to FF the subtitles with my hand on the (.) as a shortcut - it's the reason why I didn't watch it a month ago.

I have never watched a movie without subtitles and don't know if I would.

Years ago, I had bought a VHS of a Japanese V-cinema action film called Death Messenger. It starred Ryo Ishibashi of The Grudge films as a mysterious man who finds himself embroiled in some sort of plot involving a bioweapon. I saw this without subtitles, so it took some time to get the gist of it, but if I remember he actually dresses up like Rambo-like figure at the end and goes on a rampage against the bad guys, which include Yasuaki Kurata.



Also saw Shin Karate Baka Ichidai, a 2-part V-cinema on DVD film series about a martial artist who looks to perfect his techniques and must stop a deadly organization who intend to go after said martial artist's friend I think for gambling debts. Has some pro wrestlers and martial artists in the films, such as Keiji "The Great Muta" Muto and Masakatsu Funaki. I bought these DVDs years ago without the subtitles but have sold them since. The lead actor, a real-life 2nd degree black belt, played TimeRed, the Super Sentai originator of the Red Ranger on Power Rangers: Time Force.

That moment when after years of watching Japanese porn you learn that 'yamate' means 'please, stop' and in reality you were just watching rape-u videos.

Look, I'm not judging you - after all, I'm posting here myself, but maybe, just maybe, if you spent less time here and more time watching films, maybe, and I stress, maybe your taste would be of some value. Just a thought, ya know.

I was a bit younger that time. I remembered watching a Japanese film without subtitle but I can somehow understand them a bit. Some words that an anime fanatic would know. I can't remember the title of the film.

Several times actually, until I realized I what a dummy I was for not turning on subtitle options on Apple TV
