Chevolution - WATCH

That's my basic grading for documentaries; watch or don't watch. It's about the photographer and Che, and about the idea of capitalism (selling T-shirts) and the socialist idealism. History and interviews as well. You don't have to be pro or anti Che to enjoy this. Nothing mind-blowing, but when I can't put in the energy for a movie or if I'm busy with something else, a documentary is a good solution.

The Brood (1979) -

Had a lot of potential going in, but the story is just so bad, it feels like Cronenberg has trouble not getting lost in effects when it really as a story point doesn't work. Really good score tho.

Escape from New York (1981)
The name's Plissken.

I love myself a good 80's corny action movie romp. I don't know if I built this one up too much or not but it didn't really do it for me, completely. The action was really lame and even the big climactic throw-down in the wrestling pin followed by the car chase was really anti-climactic, the only moment of anything resembling tension is when there's a minute left and Snake has to scale the wall.

I liked Kurt Russel's performance for the majority, but I wouldn't put him up there with Rambo or the likes, he forces the anti-hero mentality so much he comes across as acting pretentious for pretentiousness's sake.
Movie passes in spades in the one-liners and atmosphere department though.

The Evil Dead (1981)
We're going to get you. We're going to get you. Not another peep. Time to go to sleep.

The first entry in the best horror trilogy ever made, with the best horror movie protagonist of all time. I love this movie because it's the product of just some guy who wanted to make a horror movie, and it really shows how much care he put into the project, the movie has a perfect mix of horror, fun and gallons upon gallons of gallons of blood that are spilled throughout the run-time, of just pure chaos. It has its flaws, like the atrocious acting, but this movie is so essential of the genre it's easy to look past that and enjoy it for what it is and the legacy it has produced.

Also arguably the best poster of all time.

Super disappointed, really oscar-baity and somewhat thematically and script wise muddled. Really bad editing and soundtrack too.

Kick-Ass 2 -

Pretty terrible, but not significantly worse than the original.

I saw this last night and was mostly just surprised by how shoddy and cheap it looked. Was also expecting something less ho-hum and Oscar-baity as you say, too, but still this kind of pablum has been nominated for Academy Awards before. What hasn't been nominated for big awards is something that feels so amateurish as far as basic production goes

The Bronze (2015)

Ex Machina (2015)

Very well done with a quiet intensity. Visually beautiful with super sound effects and fine acting. A bit of a coincidence that the last movie I watched was Her. A must see for the upcoming Sci-Fi countdown.

The Neon Demon (2016)

+

I've only really liked Drive from this director so far, yet I find his movies very intriguing. A little bit of overkill with vivid colors in just about every scene. It would be nice if he could use them situationally for a more startling effect. This movie has plenty of fine moments and good performances. Some of the artistry feel forced, and I thought it dragged at times. The movie was just about exactly what I expected, not a good sign, but I'm glad I watched it.

Sometimes a Great Notion - 6/10

Not well directed. Peckinpah was in talks to do it, would have loved to see that. While I was watching the movie, I thought of him. A guy I chat with was saying how this Kesey book is better than One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, so I read on Amazon (Look Inside) and I'm guessing Newman didn't take the best parts of the book. There's a lot of time watching wood. In another scene, Newman tries to start a chainsaw at least 30 times. I don't think the story was very clear, about the strike, about the people involved. Even with the main characters, there isn't much going on between them. But you'll see guys working with logs.

I have a feeling I would like the remake more.

For the Sci-Fi Top 100 Movie Countdown

Cherry 2000 (1987)

Genre: Sci-Fi (post apocalyptic, cyber punk with social commentary, action-drama-romance included)

A fun movie with heart and soul...and no bloody CG. Some of the stunts were amazing, you'd never see them being done today. Very entertaining...there's more here then meets the eye!

My full review of Cherry 2000

The Big Lebowski (1998)
Mr. Treehorn treats objects like women, man.

I am a firm believer of the opinion that this movie is the most re-watchable and quotable movie of all time. .

31 - Rob Zombie (2016)

- Gory fun and nice and sweet stoyline. I like the style of Rob Zombie... the characters he create are always very fun and entertaining to watch. He never work with highly known actor or actress but he always deliver some good and entertaining things. I'm a big fan of gore and disturbing sh*t as you already know and I appreciate this fun (probably gonna buy it on DVD). Really like Richard Brake character (Doom-Head) he was a badass killer vilain imo.
