I quite like Singin' in the Rain but as Mr. Minio said, it's pretty overhyped, imo.

Minio and Max are wrong of course. It's not hyped enough! I had Singing in the Rain at #11.

Like the fella says, in Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love - they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock."

I like Singin' in the Rain...it didn't make my list and it's not one of my favorite 50s musicals. I suspect it made #10 by strength of it's name recognition and by a general unfamiliarity with musicals that many MoFos seem to have.

IMO the best of the 1950s musicals goes to A Star is Born, which won't be making the list now, but sure should have.
