Silent Film Era Hall of Fame

Let the night air cool you off
It is kinda weird that silent films from the early 30s aren't eligible. It's also weird that the silent era is considered as going to 1929 when The Jazz Singer came out in 27. But like cricket said, when you google "Silent film era" it does say it extends until 1929. And since "Silent Film Era Hall of Fame" is what this one is called, I'd say it's probably fine. I doubt this will ruling will dissuade anybody who really wanted to join a silent film hof from joining, but it's possible somebody wanted to nominate a silent Ozu from the 30s or something.

According to the HOF Organization Thread, there has been only one silent film to win a hall of fame: The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. That was in the European Horror Hall of Fame. MoFo hates silent films

Good to see some interest here So far we have a nice group of members:

Citizen Rules
Beatle
SilentVamp
Swan
Rauldc
Mäx
and Cricket is a maybe?

I hope Cricket can join. It's good to see a couple of new to Hof members (Beatle and Max)...And hopefully we can get a few more people in to.

I received her PM. I may do this, but I have to see what I'd nominate. They are probably already taken.

You're cool, Swan. Have I ever dropped out? I think I missed one, during one of my sickly disappearing acts that I pull. I know I've won a decent amount. The Thing, Beauty and the Beast, and I still consider Halloween a win, just because it's been my favorite film since I was 16 years old. How long ago was that? About ten years ago, right!?! Yes Swan, I know Halloween was your's, but that's only because you beat me to it.

Woman, did you keep that link I gave you sometime back, for that site that has tons of silent films on it to watch? It's a legal site. Public Domain, or something like that.

And Destiny is definitely a part of this now, and I have received her nomination, too.

I hope that we can get one or two more people interested, but I have a plan if we shouldn't. If we don't get to the minimum number that is desired (as stated in the original post) by this Saturday evening, I will extend the deadline for nominations until Tuesday, August 16th, 11:59 CST. That way whoever would like to nominate a second film (it will be optional, of course) will have enough time to decide on what that nomination would be.

That is how I feel about your win with "Beauty and the Beast". You just beat me to it that night.

I don't want to admit this, but guess what? I don't think I have it. I thought about it as I was getting closer to creating this HoF. I looked through all of the links that I've saved, and I can't find it. So, I don't know if I don't have it, or if it is a case of my missing it somehow in the list. Do you still happen to remember what it was?

I know of a couple of them that I've discovered since I was trying to look for that one, but I can't remember what that specific one was called.

Cricket, you better join, or else I'm gonna kick you in the tush.

I'm surprised, but very pleased, that no one snagged my choice. I reeeeeally wanted to have that movie.

I hope that we can get one or two more people interested.
If Cricket joins, how many more will we need?

I remember that. My memory's not that bad. Not yet, anyways.

I can't find that exact site, but there are several out there now, with Public Domain movies. You tube has my choice. Here are some good links. I tried them all out . . .

I honestly wondered if someone would want to nominate it. And here it was you.

He would make 8. If we got less than that, I figured the members could each nominate a second film to bring in some extra films. But by the time you reach 8 participants, doubling that number is 16. And 16 films just sound like a lot to watch. I wouldn't mind it, but I don't know how others would feel about doing that. And I don't want this to seem overwhelming to anyone with that many movies. So that was the only reason I decided that if we were to have at least 8 people participate in here, then we wouldn't have any of the participants nominate a second film.

OK. Thanks! And I'm sure those will help with some of the films that have been nominated - if someone isn't able to watch them another way.

I think tomorrow night is the deadline for joining. I'll send my nom tomorrow if nobody else joins.
Oh, just send me your nomination. I don't think there is going to be a flood of new participants.

So soon we shall know the films?
I was planning on revealing them on Monday, but I have a couple of questions first.

I know that I said that if we got 8 members the extra nominations wouldn't be necessary. But there are a couple of people that were interested in nominating a second film. So, two questions for everybody:

1) Would you be interested in nominating a second film along with your first?

2) If you don't have any interest in nominating a second film, would you object to someone else who would like to do it?

As I said a few posts back, a second film would've been optional, anyway. But let me know what you guys think. If the idea of allowing in second nominations is favorable, then I will probably not post the films until Wednesday (I know I said I would extend the deadline until then, but I would rather make the deadline sooner than later - that one day does make a big difference). But if the majority would rather keep it to one film per person now that we'd have 8, then I will post the movies on Monday.

Care for some gopher?
I'm not sure. If everyone nominates a second film it would be a bit too much, i think. Why not keep it small and, if people are interested, do a second HoF a little later?

I kind of agree with Max, it might be too much. Speaking personally a small-sized HoF might be better for me just because it means a better chance of me finishing. However, that's just me and I don't want to be selfish, so I won't complain if we do get second noms.

I agree with the idea that we should have only 1 movie per person, for the reasons the others gave. I did have a great second choice movie though Well maybe another time

That is fine. That is all I wanted to know. Thanks!

I thought about having that second HoF. I actually thought about it long before this one started (that was when I was first debating with myself whether or not 2 nominations should be let in at all, if the turnout was small). And then if there is a second Silent HoF, the people who wanted a second film can get those nominations out of their system and be happy.

Well, I kind of thought about you when it came to second nominations. I was thinking a smaller one would be more likely to keep you in, and I am determined to get you to finish this one.
