My ranking:

1st - Big Lebowski
2nd - A Serious Man
3rd - True Grit
4th - Raising Arizona
5th - Fargo
6th - No Country for Old Men

Overall a fun director. His comedies are entertaining but I find some of his movies (5th and 6th) a bit tad forced and lacking in naturality but I enjoyed everything I watched from him except his 6th movie, which is really inelegant.

There are several existing threads on the Coen Brothers, both discussing and ranking their films, but since they continue to make more and more movies, no reason there can't be a new thread every once in a while. I suppose. So, how I rate their filmography to date....

1. Miller's Crossing
...."The Old Man's still an artist with the Thompson."
2. No Country for Old Men
...."I'm fixin' to do something dumber than Hell, but I'm going anyways."
3. Barton Fink
...."I will show you the life of the mind!"
4. A Serious Man
...."Please, accept the mystery."
5. The Big Lebowski
...."You think the carpet-pissers did this?"
.

6. Raising Arizona
...."Son, you got a panty on your head."
7. True Grit
...."One would be just as unpleasant as the other."
8. O Brother, Where Art Thou?
...."Lots of respectable people been hit by trains!"
9. The Hudsucker Proxy
...."And you...a Muncie girl."
10. Fargo
....."I suppose that was your accomplice back there in the woodchipper?"
.

11. Inside Llewyn Davis
....."I don't see a lot of money, here."
12. The Man Who Wasn't There
....."He told them not to look at the facts, but at the meaning of the facts. Then he said the facts had no meaning."
13. The Ballad of Buster Scruggs
....."The coup-de-grâce I'll leave to the wolves and Gila monsters!"
14. Intolerable Cruelty
....."Are you Wheezy Joe?"
15. Blood Simple
...."But this is Texas, and down here...you're on your own."
16. Hail, Caesar!
....."Would that it were so simple. Trippingly."
17. "Tuileries" segment of Paris, je T'aime
.....What are you looking at, cunt (cunt-person)?
18. Burn After Reading
....."No, no. God, no! Burn the body. Get rid of it."
19. The Ladykillers
....."Madam, we must have waffles! We must all have waffles forthwith!"

*UPDATED TO INCLUDE The Ballad of Buster Scruggs

Not a "him", but a "them". The Coen Brothers. It wasn't until The Ladykillers, of all projects, that they officially started taking co-directorial credit on screen, but in fact they have always been co-directors, co-writers, and co-producers, though for their first ten films Joel took sole directorial credit and Ethan sole producer credit.
