Super stoked that you enjoyed it Cricket! I really hope you like Glory even more. To me it's Zwick's masterpiece, the emotions in that movie are so powerful, as are the battle scenes and not to mention the music!

I also hope you can get around to watching The Last Samurai sometime if you haven't yet.

Starting off as a kind of Single White Female style thriller with a woman acting weird and her husband suspecting her of infidelity, which also has the audience wondering if the wife has an identical twin, to a ridiculous alien abduction twist that ruins an already mediocre horror.

Odviosuly influenced by the Saw films and, with the exception of Jeffrey Combs, let down by a mostly terrible cast (which included a former porn star who actually looks more of tramp in this than in the porn films she performed in.) This is just one of the numerous Saw clone game-type horrors that have been popping up over the last few years. The ending is underwhelming to say the least..

Blood Diamond (2006)

This is sort of an action/adventure/thriller about diamond smuggling set during an African Civil War. The horrifying atrocities that come with the setting lifts up the standard plot and gives it some meaning.

Leo Dicaprio plays a smuggler and Jennifer Connelly a journalist; they have both done better work but their good is good enough. I thought that Djimon Hounsou was the standout as a local who finds a precious diamond after he gets separated from his family. He teams up with Leo's character, and they help each other with their different goals.

I wouldn't say anything in particular about the movie was special, but as a whole it is very strong. It's almost 2 1/2 hours long and it never dragged. It is entertaining while giving off a sense of urgency. This was the 5th good movie I've seen from underrated director Edward Zwick. The next movie I watch of his will most likely be Glory. Oh yea, my wife enjoyed this movie quite a bit as well.
One of my all-time favorite!! love that flick.

Brother (2009) - Jim Sheridan

- Appreciate that flick a lot. Truly show the atrocity of war and some mental post-war vision of a man that suffer a lot. Tobey Maguire is amazing in it and the ending is quite awesome.

Care for some gopher?
The Great Dictator (USA, 1940, Charlie Chaplin) -

A very good movie, of course. But unfortunately, there are several silly scenes and jokes which keep the movie from being truly great.

Ex Machina (2015)

Classic science fiction. Creppy but at the same time smart execution of the classic A.I. sci fi concept. Also, rather creppy, I also noticed it was made by the same guy as 28 days later, indeed, it's very similar in the style it was made.

I haven't seen this since the first AFI list came out in '98. I really didn't remember anything besides Rosebud and I would have known about that a long time ago. It really is a fantastic film. The camera work and editing is absolutely brilliant. Every other shot I found myself thinking I am going to remember that shot. Of course the characters and story are fantastic as well, but the style is what has this film talked about as the greatest ever I think. I loved watching Welles and Cotten too. I won't let it be seventeen years until I see it again. Especially now that I have the sweet 70th anniversary blu-ray.

Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation (McQuarrie, 2015)

So... because of traffic I actually missed the wonderful scene where Tom Cruise hangs on a airplane, thus making me slightly pissed when I finally sat down on my designated seat. The start of a 2 hour journey was not very pleasant.

But damn the rest of the movie made up for the bad start, and even made me forget that I had one in the first place! This is now my favorite film in the entire Mission Impossible series. Everything in this film has evolved... to kill one man, and that's Tom f*cking Cruise. He's as old as my dad but still wants to run, gun, and have fun, but there are so many things in his way. This time, there are three agencies who's ultimate goal is to kill him for their own benefit, an underwater vault with secret information and of course danger such as no oxygen, water pressure, and a rotating metal thing that keeps introducers out of reach. And most deadly of all, a sensor that tracks a person's movement and uses it to allow access or not, making masks and fakes identities useless!

These enemies are even more skilled, diverse, and rogue than last time. Especially diversity, since they seem to drag Tom Cruise and his buddies into every type of fighting possible. Motorcycle chases, car chases, hand-to-hand combat, swordfights, and good oil' running. It's like a Greatest Hits album, with a driving pace. The best part out of all of this is that the film is obviously self-aware, yet it keeps a serious face throughout. For example, there is a scene where Tom Cruise and Simon Pegg are escaping from some terrorists using a car. The result is the car flipping in the air 5 and a half times (I counted), and nobody getting hurt, not even a crash. When they get out from the wreckage, it's like something happening everyday.

Sure, this is not a perfect film, but if you want to go to theaters this year and have actual fun and sheer enjoyment, I recommend Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation.

I'm glad you liked it, Gatsby. I guess technically it might not be a perfect film, but personally, I didn't feel like there was a single misstep in it.

Yeah, it was basically "as good as it gets". The most you can expect from a summer flick is MI5.

I also really liked some other small things, such as Simon Pegg getting almost as much screen time as Tom Cruise, and Rebecca Furguson. She's super hot IMO without trying to act like she is.

Brothers -- not Brother.

I considered this my favorite movie before. Not sure if it still is.

Brothers is actually a remake of a foreign film. I have the foreign film, but I've never watched it. Yet.

That's crazy... my favorite movie... a remake of a foreign film..... never thought about that before.
