Ashes and Snow (2005) - Gregory Colbert

Pretty magical experience...my only complain would be that it is a bit too long...

Portrait of Jennie (1948) - William Dieterle (American Fantasy)
I'm not sure I'd heard of anyone mentioning this film before but I loved it - so much so that it will probably make my Top 100 when I do a new one. The cinematography is amazing and it is really the star of the show giving the whole thing an amazing atmosphere. The story itself is interesting and Joseph Cotten was good as usual but it was the images that had me captivated.

I haven't seen it, but I really should! I love Jennifer Jones, Joseph Cotten, and William Dieterle!

Those images look beautiful! I'll have to add this to my (never-ending) watchlist.

Master of My Domain
Zombieland (2009)

Flawed, stupid and a bit forced, but surprisingly blends horror and comedy very well. The Bill Murray scene is f*cking brilliant, the movie is almost worth seeing for those few minutes alone.

I love Zombieland... it's one of the most fun movies I've seen.

Look, I'm not judging you - after all, I'm posting here myself, but maybe, just maybe, if you spent less time here and more time watching films, maybe, and I stress, maybe your taste would be of some value. Just a thought, ya know.

Bringing Out The Dead (Martin Scorsese, 1999)
Cage and Sizemore are awesome in this. Reminded me a lot of Taxi Driver. 3/5

King Kong (USA, 1976, John Guillermin) -

Entertaining and charming adventure flick. I found the second half to be weaker, because it was just action then.

It is nothing like I have seen before...I am sure you will like it.

Revolution Will Not Be Televised (2003) - Donnacha O'Briain & Kim Bartley

This is fascinating. I have never seen a documentary so thrilling...time just flies past like that...they never tried to make it a docu-fiction, that way it is very authentic...but after a point of time you even forget that you are watching a documentary...what particularly gives it strength is that it reaches all sectors of the society and maintains a (kind of) objectivity...solid material, beautiful presentation...bravo

The first part is absolutely brilliant, but unfortunately i can't get into the second part as much as i want to.

I have to return some videotapes.
The Loved Ones (2009)

I don't care that much for films that can be categorised as 'torture-porn' in general, and whilst this could undoubtedly fall into that category, for myself there is one thing that makes this film transcend the norm for that type of film and that is the performance of Robin McLeavy who is outstanding in giving an utterly depraved character a level of vulnerability.
That movie was just creepy as hell. The dad was even weirder than her imo.

I recently had a discussion with another member about the "torture porn" subgenre, which I have never been that much into either. He kind of opened my eyes to its merits. I'm much more open to viewing a supremely disgusting film now, but I still ask a movie at least attempt to be of a certain quality, just like I would with any type of film. And a lot of the time, those kinds of films are really poorly made and not in the "so-bad-its-good" way. But obviously that's not always the case - The Loved Ones is a striking example of torture and gore in a high quality piece of work. Martyrs is another one. Both movies involving torture whilst being very well done.

Props to giving this movie a super good rating, man.
