you have great movie taste !
Thanks! I was skeptical of Sinister at first, but I've argued for a long time now that Blumhouse Productions is unerringly good at making horror movies (like Marvel with live action movies or DC eith animated obes). No matter how stupid their ideas might seem on the surface, they make them work.

Enemy (2013)

...Jesus, where do I even begin to start with this movie. First off, special thanks' to Arcanis for recommending this one. I don't think I'll be quite the same again, at least not for another week or two.

This movie is brilliant. An absolutely devastating look in to the mind of a man who is truly going insane. The way the film has been shot and put together like a puzzle definitely makes it a good challenge to stay on point, (it did take me a second viewing to get a good grasp on it all) but drops all the subtle hints as to what is going on visually, as opposed to verbally...Though there is much to be revealed there too.

I'm honestly 100% blown away right now. No other movie has ever taken such a toll on me before...Every technique Denis Villeneuve used to get the point across in this film just works so well, and has such a strong impact that lingers right at the front of your mind long after you've finished watching.

Overall, this is a must-see I think. An extremely well done film. Will be looking out for more of Denis Villeneuve' work in future that's for sure.

5 / 5.

Mind has been blown!
I'm glad that you liked it. It honestly wasn't on my radar at all until one of the critics I follow (Chris Stuckmann) put it on his best of the year list. I was definitely not expecting the arthouse love-child of Fight Club and Vertigo that it ended up being. It really is one of the best (if most confusing) movies of the year.

Although I haven't seen it myself, the same director's previous film, Prisoners, was Stuckmann's favorite film from 2013 (which is probably also worth checking out).

Yojimbo (1961) by Akira Kurosawa

These Samurai films of Kurosawa are really very enjoyable...not so much a thought provoking one like Rashomon or Ikiru but they are sheer entertainments, perfect editing, light, camera and acting...worth it.

7.5/10

The Grapes Of Wrath (Ford) - 9/10

I've seen this many times. I'd give it a 10 if it was more political, and made fun of the red b.s... "Anyone who wants a nickel more is a red."
Fonda's performance is so great. If I owned a school, I would make this film a requirement. Seems like things haven't changed much; you try to improve anything, the word "socialism" is thrown out, usually by those who have no idea what it means, and the fact that most systems is a combination of a public and private sector.

This film reminds me a bit of what's happening now, how so many people lost their homes because of others' greed and illegal actions. This world could use a few more guys like Tom Joad.

Algiers - 3/10 - Charles Boyer is almost the same character in Gaslight with his arrogance... I didn't like one character. I think the film is pretty bad.

i give 9.1/10 for kingsman

Separate Tables (1958)

Good drama about a collection of people who live in a hotel in England, and their interactions. There's romance, snobbery, lechery, etc. Very good acting all around from Burt Lancaster, Deborah Kerr, David Niven, Wendy Hiller, and Rita Hayworth. Niven won Best Actor and Hiller won Best Supporting Actress. Niven was fine but I think Lancaster should have been nominated. He was really great in this.

Chop Shop

Same style as Jean-Pierre Dardenne's films. They suck too.

you will if you see it
I do want to see it, just not going to be in the cinema.
Have you read the books? I got 200 pages into the first one, but it annoyed me so much, so I gave up.

So you want to see a film many seem to be saying boring/bad, based on a book you stopped reading because it annoyed you so much? Y'see, this is why they keep making crap, people. At least you're not paying to see it... Yet.

Yup! I want to see what they did with the movie, and now of course I need to see if it's really that bad... I get your point, but there will always be crap movies, books etc., and while they might not add anything of value to ones life, they might just make you laugh/smile for a while, because of their stupidness.
