The Mofo Top 100 Television Shows

Tools

Yeah but that is the point, and why I think the show is so good. They're criminals, but it doesn't feel like it, I don't have strong feelings of dislike throughout. Sometimes disgust, but not consistently. There are many heartbreaking moments that make you cry and you genuinely feel for them as humans, as inhuman as they sometimes are.

I watched the first couple episodes of The Sopranos, but never watched it again because my wife didn't like it. I never understood because she loves Goodfellas, Casino, The Godfather, etc. I'm confident that if I followed the show, it would be easy top 5 for me.

For sure. I am with you 100% on that. That's what good TV and film does now. Humanizes people who we normally would not. That's real life though. Somebody knows that monster we hear about in the news, and they know that broken side of them. That's why when the media interviews the neighbor of the criminal you rarely, if ever, hear them say"I knew it, the guy was a nut job".

Which main characters in The Sopranos would you say are hateable? I think what makes the show so good is that we actually care and like these criminals, its the psychology of them, their families and their worldview, and they way its approached through looking at their daily activities and also incorporating the psychiatrist into it that makes it so successful. Obviously there's characters like Richie, Phil Leotardo and so one, who are c*nts. But I love Tony, I love Chris, I love Paulie, I love Silvio etc etc and would never use any other word when first describing them.
I wouldn't use any other word to describe them either, it's that true for me that i feel compelled to copy and paste it I love Tony, I love Chris, I love Paulie, I love Silvio etc. Still all four have multiple reasons for them being unlikeable. Chris is a junkie that beats his girlfriend, Tony himself beats (Gloria) and cheats on women as well as using his position to intimidate or even beat people when he's in a bad mood, liike Georgie or the guy who slammed the fridge door (can't remember his name, and he didn't slam it ). Paulie's character is based around the fact that he's mean and doesn't really give a **** so i doubt i need to give any examples with him, Silvio again bitchslapped Ralphs GF from the Bada Bing, he also gave Chris permission to rob the Fibre-Optic Cables from Phils Racket, which from his confrontation with Tony seemed more like deliberate antagonization of Tony than anything else.

Chappie doesn't like the real world
We can relax our views and judgements when watching TV and movies. Murder can be funny and we can admire and like rather despicable people. It's escapism and fantasy. I never understand when people get upset because of the morals of a tv show. I demand that the people in my life behave in certain ways and hold certain beliefs, but I certainly don't apply that to movies and tv shows. One can only watch so much Little House and I love that show.

I hope everyone is aware that i don't actually hate The Sopranos characters? It's just a common criticism of the show and i was saying that i know where they were coming from.

I didn't get that from your posts at all. Meaning I didn't think you were saying you hated the characters.

Yeah I know this, and that's what I was getting at, I don't really understand it as a complaint. If the characters were shallow figures without any complexity, depth, emotion etc. and we just watched them going around killing people with no explanation, of course it would be dislikable. But I question people who dismiss these sort of shows because it glorifies violence, whether they have actually sat down and watched them.

If I wouldn't have forgotten to vote, Mad Men would've been my #1 and The Sopranos would've probably been my #2.

Just wanted to say that.

From what i've taken away from certain reviews i've read, it seems to be the lack of hesitation that any of the characters have to killing. Saying that i completely agree with you, if every murder was like the Pu55y murder where every character was opposed to doing it, it would be a completely pointless and the show would've suffered as a result.

One step closer to The Wire being #1. Well, likely enough people haven't seen it, but I bet those who have all had it near the top of their lists.

Had The Sopranos at #18.

The Sopranos was my #6.

Basically, it changed TV drama. Don't have time to say anything else just now but if it hadn't been for this show I'm pretty sure that some of the others higher on the list (including a few on my own) would never have been made, and if they had they'd have felt very different.

Suspect's Reviews

Wow Sopranos only number 7 it was my number 3, but only because I wanted two UK series to be my 1 and 2. I thought it'd be top 3.
I love Sopranos to pieces . I've seen it four times all the way through . The characters are complex, the storylines are superb , no series ever loses momentum, it's just a perfect package.

I watched the first couple episodes of The Sopranos, but never watched it again because my wife didn't like it. I never understood because she loves Goodfellas, Casino, The Godfather, etc. I'm confident that if I followed the show, it would be easy top 5 for me.
I went through the same thing with my wife but luckily my wife stuck it out and became just as addicted as I was. If your wife likes the movies you mentioned you should really try again.

6. The Wire

Theme Song

Quotes: Brother Mouzone: I see you favor a .45.
Omar: At night I do. And I keeps one in the chamber in case you ponderin'.

Adjourn your asses ~ Stringer Bell

A crime drama series set in Baltimore, Maryland. Each season depicts a different facet of city life.

The story is told from the viewpoints of all the characters from every side.

The Wire didn't win any major television awards or garner high ratings, but's a darling of the critics and considered one of the best dramatic television series in history.

Realism: The show has been praised enthusiastically for its realistic nature. Creator David Simon was a Baltimore police reporter and Ed Burns worked as a detective in Baltimore's Homicide unit.

Sheeeeeeit: the catchphrase wasn't written into the script. Actor Isiah Whitlock improvised it.

Omar faked it: Michael Kenneth Williams can't whistle, so when ever you hear him whistling Farmer in the Dell, it's someone else.

Bubbles: He was based off a real police informant in the 60s. He worked for decades and was responsible for getting hundreds of people arrested. He really did use the hat trick.

Omar's inspiration: When asked how best to prepare for his role, Michael Kenneth Williams was told to watch The Wild Bunch and The Man Who Shot Liberty Vance
