well well well,
I sat and I watched it...in my house not in the theaters...and holy molly.....never as a canadian have I felt so much sympathy....mixed with anger mixed with unity mixed with pure...I don't know...pure furiouse desperation to tell all americans and all canadians and germans and brits....I DO FEEL YOU NOW. satire is not what this doc was it was truth... or was it? was it exploitation...as southern americans fell yes....I am sure...as columbinians...(littletons) am sure to fell great satisfaction...mixed with the same felling of exploitation... this film is exactly what marylon manson said fear and consumption....i feared this film....i feared the need to consume it...I felt the need to turn it off and cry for all those poor americans soo...petrified, so insecure in there own security...contridictions....yes...but what els am I suposed to say about this film./...the maker of it is a life time member of the NRA after all... he felt it actually nessecary to apply for the bank acount with the free gun...not just mention it. and he took it....isn't this entire movie a contidiction in terms and imagry??? NO? YES? what ever you feel it was a great documentry. i sat and sipped a glass of white wine... and laughed and I cringed. I cried and I felt. if not for the first time I felt for the last...and never again will I feel it nessacary to say..." ****ing americans"...rather..."poor misguided insecure people" grasping on to the dilusion that guns keep "the people safe"...11,127?????...a year....suposedly. granted its just a movie...granted its unscripted...granted....yes granted....this is a great film.....congrats mr. moore.

Your reaction is exactly why I don’t like Bowling for Columbine… Michael Moore did the same thing he accuses the media of doing… spread fear. I’ve watched this movie three times and much of it is very misleading if not an out and out lie… The only one in the whole film that made a lot of sense was Manson… especially when he was asked what he would have done for those kids who went on the killing spree at Columbine and he replied, “I would have listened to them because no one did.”

BTW... there is already a thread about Bowling HERE

I dunno Cait - isn't Drexal actually saying he had a more hate-filled/fearful attitude towards america b4 he saw this? (admittadly now his response is more pitying - but despite being patronising to you etc, couldn't than be a more positive attitude that hate?)

I know Moore's distending of stats and plain misguidedness in places is very annoying - but this is an increasing movement amongst the "ineffective" left i think - the if-we're-getting-spun-to-constantly-lets-spin-back-at-'em attitude. I'd rather see effective use of stats and arguments etc - but there you go - that's the divisive "left" for you - not that liable to get things together to that extent (but we shall see...)

I understand Moore's POV tho - most of his stuff is a mixture of (often worthwhile) dirt-digging, and a general desire to scream his outrage at certain things. He is often guilty of painting things with too broad a brush tho.

Do you know my poetry?
I've been wanting to see this movie since october, finally the DVD is released and I saw it.I gotta say great great film, I really love this documentary, this is one of my favorite documentaries I've seen.Micheal Moore is did a great job of doing this movie and I'm glad it won the Academy Award for best documentary, also I loved his speech, I thought it was really funny. Also the DVD has a good amount of features, like him talking about his acceptence speech, trailers, commentaries, making of features and many more.I knew this movie would be great and when I saw it I was right, it was so great.

Can't be. We have the Bowling for Columbine DVD here for months already. Surely, they release DVDs in USA before they do in Belgium ?!

(after a couple of minutes)

DVD Release Date: August 19, 2003 , says Amazon.com. Blimey, unbelievable.

There you go - Moore's stuff has need a lot of "outside" help. His first ever doc was helped out by a Bush family member showing him the ropes of doc-making tho apparently !!! Could there be some good blood in the ole power-flood that is the bush-family?

When was the DVD released in belgium?

The way I see it is, whichever way you cut it, this was a very effective documentary. I don't love it, however, since I do not agree with it's central theme.

Beween all the fudged facts, clever editing, exxagerated stances, Michael Moore made a movie that made people think, whether or not it changed your mind. I don't think a lot of conservatives "get" Moore, in the same vein that a lot of liberals don't "get" O'Reilly. And Ann Coulter might be the most hateable person...ever.

To true - the discussions make up for the lack of logic-glue. What's O'reilly done? Don't think s/he's made much of an impact over here.

He's a pretty over-the-top conservative TV personality. He has his own show on Fox, in which he discusses his views that are so exxagerated I can't but help like him for entertainment value. A lot of liberals take him too seriously, and thusly get really upset with him, likewise for conservatives and Moore.

But Ann Coulter is on CNN I believe, and she is just plain bad.

Micheal Moore did not spread fear, not at all, he tired to enduce change. The media exploits violence and fear to sell newspapers and make movies. Moore just brought forth the facts that have been buried by Bush's reign of idiotacy. Bush is to consumed in attacking every country that has ****ed up there tiny piece of land and not even raised a finger towards the US. Bush needs to step down and admit he didn't give a **** about the American people or to free the World form the threat of terriost, he simply wanted to get more cash for his family and friends by finding a hefty sum of oil. For shame.

Wow really? What were the features? Our dvd came out last tuesday

Michael Moore capitalized off from the Columbine opportun-- err, I mean tragedy, like NO ONE ELSE.

Not bad for a self-proclaimed Socialist.

Erm, i think your "confliction" idea said it better

Thanks, drexal. I'm glad you and a few others understand.

Golgot's next. Come on, Golgot, come to the light, come to the light.

Only when you back up your stats and theories bang-bang-boy

I'm a realist, as i see it. As in: I'd really like to keep my country all in one piece (and thankfully - despite your totally skewed facts - it's clear that we're doing that.) I'm always going to look for the best analysed and most practical/sensible ways to acheive this.

Tho i must admit you made me think about the house-breaking thing. That is a big issue. But it's a social issue too. I'd rather address the CAUSE than rely on some technology to miraculously fix all our ills. It won't/can't. Only we can fix that.

You are very simplistic, IMHO, to say that giving-guns-to-all is the best solution to america's crime problems. You need to analyse the sourcing, implementation and reputation of the stats and theories you put forward,

I've pointed out the flaws in the majority of them. The ones I can't discredit, you can't prove, so that works out even

Never-the-less, if you can bring some ACTUALLY CONVINCING AND INTERNALLY-CONSISTANT information to the table, you might still convince me to step into the heavenly illuminated clearing you seem to believe you inhabit
