I should have a look at The Following.
I've just watched something I've never seen before called Sex, Sun and Suspicious Parents. What a horrible programme! How weird that people could go and spy on their kids who're in their twenties! Jeez, they're adults! All more than a little creepy I think, infantilising grown men.

^ I'm five episodes into the first series of The Following and I love it, hope it continues like that.
If you're that far in and it doesn't leave you doing this every 10 minutes, then I think you're OK. I think episode 8/9 is the make or break episodes, if you get that far. My guess is that if you still like it from then, it's a goer for you.

There's very little on BBCThree worth even checking out, let alone actually watching (however, when they do get it right, boy, do they get it right.) The ads I've seen for it over the last couple of years have done nothing to make me think for a second that I'd enjoy it. Also, infantilising men is the norm for this society now.

As the mother of two grown up sons, that aggravates the hell out of me. The media has a lot to answer for in that regard. While they were growing up the images of useless men in tv adverts had to be picked up on otherwise how are kids not to think that stereotype is right

BBC3 is horrendous most of the time but you are right, when they do get it right it's usually a fantastic programme or series. Their run of programmes on mental health issues last year was excellent for example.

It made me quite angry a few years back when they were thinking of getting rid of the wonderful BBC4 channel but leaving BBC3...

They do, but I think much of this comes from men no longer having a defined role. The media, for want of a better word, only really took up from where the advertisers left off and the advertisers did what they did to sell to women. I don't know which specific adverts you're referring to, if any, when you say "images of useless men in tv adverts" but I bet the product was being sold primarily to women. Honestly, I think commercialisation since the 50's is really starting to come into effect now and I don't think we can really imagine what the current internet/texting/social media society is going to lead to.

I'm with you 100%, but, sadly, BBCThree appeals to 'the right demographic.'

True Hun. Yes I was thinking of useless men in cleaning/cooking advert situations, I suppose it's the other side of the 'little woman' in the 50s ads.

Yes, back in the 50's they sold those items to women as what they needed to be 'the perfect housewife'. "After all, why wouldn't you want to look after your husband? You don't want him straying, do you?" While in the 80's it became, "well, let's face it, he'll only cock it up anyway and you're a capable, strong, independent women, so you might as well do it right the first time round." Same women bought them, it's just that the old approach was now off-putting, sexist and/or patronising.

The penultimate episodes of the Bridge II. Intriguing glimpse into Saga's background. Wonder if they'll tell us more this series or wait until future series. Some creepy stuff going on!

I've made it to episode 10 so far, I've done a bit of eye rolling along the way but still enjoying it.

Finished here. It's been fun.
Just finished the 3rd season of American Horror Story. I'd give it around a
. Good, but it failed to live up to it's full potential.

I'll be honest, I thought the final episode was a bit of an anti-climax. However, as it was all so much better than the first series, IMO, I'm happy overall. Like you, I'm looking forward to the third series.

Two things about ARROW. 1. They better not hook Oliver up with Felicity. 2. They need to drop Summer Glau - she is the death knell of all TV shows. She comes. They die.

Just yes. This is good acting, nuff said. These two close out all television and make you remember why you liked serials in the first place. We're on episode 3, and we havent even gotten to the main storyline (murder), but already there's so much character development, you're thinking - CMON!!!!

I discuss in its own thread. But for now, a must see! There is a mad load of nudity, which I tend to not like because I thinks its gratuitous for men - this has that, but the story is interesting enough to overlook that - thus far, at least!

Not the most cerebral show out there, and ok, I admit that I only come to this show when Im bored. But look. Pretty things!!! So pretty. So pretty.

This show is going to die. I hate to have to say this because the show is carried by Tricia Helfer, who we KNOW can act, and carry some serious drama (a la Battlestar Galactica). That's not going to save this show. I honestly believe the ONLY person on this show who can act is Helfer. That, or the need to fire the entire writing team. But if something doesnt change , and fast, the cheese is going to get so thick the viewer ratings will suffocate this thing to death.

This one is my painful compromise to Falling Sky, which I will not watch on general principle, because it angers me even more than this show. This one, I will watch, unless it continues off the rails with the stupid-kiddies, even-stupider-parents thing it has currently going on. And it doesnt help that Im annoyed that the only black person on the show is a token - Giancarlo Esposito - who they no-doubt hope resembles Obama. Really? Really writers? The ONLY black person in post-apocalyptic america is one morally ambiguous mixed race man, and occasionally an old black chick (maria howell?), who they let wield a gun, but always stop short of letting her kick some righteous butt. And I'm still trying to figure out how a black man (or mixed race man) and a white woman can manage to give birth to a latino son. How does that work, exactly???? JD Pardo looks straight LATINO. Honestly, half-black/half-white children do not equal LATINO. If I were latino, I'd be insulted. And GOD HELP ME - how in the world can an freckled, pale-skinned, Red-headed Irish woman and a Blonde, blue eyed white guy produce a swarthy mexican looking son? For real. I am going there with this, because it annoys me everytime I watch this show.

Love the show. Even though it may be canceled, I think this show strikes a nice balance between serious and light-hearted enough to want to watch it again each week. They have the serial aspect of the show, and the over-arching story arcs that give continuity. If you like light-hearted super-hero fluff where the good guys always come out ahead - this one's for you.

I have a love/hate relationship with this show, because I cant stand "the other woman," character, and I confess Im still waiting for Shonda Rhimes to destroy Kerry Washington's character Olivia Pope - why? Because Shonda Rhimes cant help herself. She does insane gut-wrenching drama really well, but I honestly think that she reaches deep down in there and pulls out something dark that she hates - she plays with it, and then she disowns it. Cuz she hates it. Hey! Pop psychology by someone not learned enough to do it! Other than that - great acting by all and sundry, but I just hope the stories dont get mired in "epicness." The story lept from being episodic problems into a gigantic arc - and it keeps getting bigger and bigger. Im worried its going to get beyond Rhimes' ability to make it believable. Itll jump the shark. Already it has when Quinn being traumatized and destroyed. Are you kidding me??? Kill Huck, keep Quinn - that's my motto. Nail-biter.

I tried. I did. Downright fine white guy. Downright gorgeous black chick. And here's the thing - I liked her wit - I did. Her sister was cool, in a scary, I'll-kill-you-if-I-have-to kinda way, so downright cool soul sistas all around. I just couldnt carry on once it got all biblical. It truly, TRULY annoys me when people get the biblical bits wrong, or they try and make all honest belief in a higher power nutty or insane. I got to a point where I just refuse to sit there and watch a profane caricature of all things holy and sacred. I cant do it. If they actually let the sisters kick some real butt, and get beyond hokeyness, I might return. Til then, Imma have to let a sista go.

Great great show. But then, Im a serious Caviezel fan. And Michael has impressed me since his Lost days. Totally love Taraji Henson, but as of current they killed her off the show. Sad days indeed. The black chick in me is quite angry about that, and I blame the writers for not doing more with her character. Whatever. The jury is still out on the show itself, which so far still remains good, so we'll see how it goes. Shame to think a show can only be a good show with 0% black representation. Well, its patently untrue, and the whitewashing of TV shows is starting to become disturbing.

Josh Holloway is a beautiful man. He really is. (Anson Mount still wins, but he's a close second). And he can act - we know that from Lost. However, neither of those reasons will save this show. They arc the story way to fast; the character dialogue is wooden (bad writing); the acting is poor (bad writing?); the girl playing opposite him is too young, and finally, his haircut is BAD. MY god, we liked the charming but wild southern boy. Who is THIS guy?? This show is like a bad revision of Chuck. Think of it like Chuck for grown-ups, or Chuck in the real world, where real people die. Whatever it is, I keep watching for Josh Holloway, but it just keeps getting worse.

I love Scandal and I honestly have no idea just how it managed to go from episodic to huge storyline arcs so seamlessly. It was beautifully done. Season 3 won't be shown over here until later in the year (I'm not sure when) but I'm really looking forward to it.

True Detective starts over here in a couple of weeks. I liked Person Of Interest but it started to clash with lots of stuff and I just couldn't find a place for it, so I dropped it a few episodes into season 2. Shame, as Amy Acker had just joined.

I was surprised to like Sleepy Hollow, as it started out a bit like another Grimm (which I watch but could probably drop) however, I feel it's developed beyond that and I really got into it. That said, I wasn't convinced by the last couple of episodes, so we'll see how season 2 goes.

I've just started Arrow series 1, about five episodes into it and didn't know Summer Glau was in it... not a fan. Does she have a big part?

Falling Skies? why does it anger you so much? I've got the first series on DVD but didn't manage to finish the first episode... will get back to it.

Chappie doesn't like the real world

I really need to sit down and watch Sleepy Hollow and see if I like it. I usually have it on for background noise and I only halfway pay attention to it. It seems recently they went somewhere I didn't like and for being a fantasy show, I want some better fantastical characters than it seems to have. I really like the two lead actors though and I like their relationship.

I've watched Person of Interest a couple of times but as much as I love Michael Emerson, it didn't interest me much. I didn't know Amy Acker had joined though. That changes everything.

I can understand that. As someone who doesn't like fantasy too much, it's already more than fantastical enough for me. If it went too much further, I could see myself having trouble with it.

Amy Acker is a good reason to watch most things.

I love fantasy when it's done well. Problem is, most times it's not. I don't really understand that. It's the same with literature too. I've read so much crap, but when I find that gem, it's almost worth it.

She is. I loved her on Angel as both Fred and Illyria and was the only reason I stuck with Dollhouse.

Young Skywalker. Missed you, I have...
I watched a few episodes of Sleepy Hollow and couldn't make myself continue to watch it. I am one of those people that will create a DVR timer to catch my shows, if a show gets up to 4-5 episodes I will usually just delete the timer because I am clearly not interested in catching up with it. Half the time I will even delete the shows without watching them first because I don't care enough.

I had, um, other reasons to keep watching.

Also, there was Neighbours alumni to keep track of.

I do this, too. Though I'm not quite as ruthless as you are with deleting stuff I have building up. I still have Season 6 of Mad Men recorded and unseen.
