Women will be your undoing, Pépé
For me it's evenings, including Saturdays for a 6 day, 45+ hr work week. Don't care for the 6 day work week but I DO like working evenings as opposed to a day shift. Always hated getting up in the morning.

I don't think I could work evenings or late nights. I've spent years getting up at 4am to go to work, and it would just be too drastic a change. Even on my days off I'm up as soon as the sun is haha.

I think I forgot to mention it earlier, so I'll say it now: thanks for taking over hosting MV.

An Announcement:

For anybody who isn't yet aware, I am taking over hosting duties for this HOF.

I still need ballots from these people:

@Blix the Goblin
@Clazor
@cricket
@edarsenal
@Jeff Costello
@neiba

If you are still watching movies, don't worry - the deadline is August 9th. If any of you that are listed above have already submitted your ballot to Camo, you'll need to resend it to me.

If any of you have decided not to complete this HOF, please either post in here that you are dropping out or send me a private message or profile comment so that I can let everyone else know and adjust the ballots that were already received.

Camo said he added an extra week when Blix joined. Deadline is therefore on 09.08.17.

Camo emailed me and says he's not coming back. He sent me all of the information he has, including his own ballot. I probably won't have a chance to really look it over until early next week though.

Just waiting to see if I should watch The Quiet Earth.
I PMed Clazor asking him to let us know if he's still in or not. Hopefully I get an answer soon.

Save the Texas Prairie Chicken
I am all done watching the films, actually. I just haven't gotten around to writing about the last 3 films. I was holding off sending the list until then (that is what I usually do). I will try to get to the last 3 write-ups this week.

I'm not very active sorry, but I will send a list and I've already watch a couple of movies.

Namely, Jeux d'Enfants and The Three Musketeers. (Which I'll review later)

So the only ones I have to watch are: Buffalo 66, Wings of Desire (rewatch), The Great Dictator (rewatch), Nightmare Alley, Fresh Blood and Dances with Wolves (rewatch)

Buffalo '66

I wasn't at all familiar with Vincent Gallo before watching this film. From occasional glimpses of other reviews and Cricket's boiling hatred for the man, I was intrigued. Gallo to me looks like a homeless man Joaquin Phoenix and after reading about him later, he is in fact a bit of a douche. But I have to hand it to him, Buffalo '66 was refreshingly clever and well versed film.

The film starts as Billy (Gallo) is released out of prison for a crime he didn't commited. In a flashback, we can right away see that Billy is deeply unhappy man and possibly traumatized from his experience in prison. After a phone-call with his mother, Billy decides to kidnap a young tap-dancer Layla (Christina Ricci) in order to fill out for lies he was feeding his parents.

First of all, I thought the scenes in Billy's parents home were amazing. The tension between him and his parents was so palpable. I liked how we got to see a brief insight into Billy's childhood and where his anger towards the world originated from. Christina Ricci gave an amazing performance, especially considering she was about 17-years old at the time of shooting. Her chemistry with Gallo was great and she served as a contrast to his character with her warmness, compassion and unlimited tolerance. It was really nice to see her character reaching into Billy's tormented soul and giving his life a new meaning.

Buffalo '66 was also very nicely written and funny. I was cracking up several times, especially during the photo-booth scene. I also appreciated the score and a cinematography. But one of the most impressive aspects of the film was its versatility. It was both funny and depressing, surreal and realistic, brutal and tender... Really a perfect blend of comedy and drama. Great film !
