The Shoutbox
He explained it's a reflection of his actions in the part you decided not to quote. Not sure who would disagree with beating up women and emotionally abusing your children being described as pretty crappy actions.

p.s. I have no idea how to direct link a post. So. Yeah.
He admitted he beat Cynthia and just women in genera on more than one occasion. Like Yoda said maybe he changed but i don't buy it personally particularly with allegations of later abuse towards Yoko:

“(The song) is a diary form of writing. All that ‘I used to be cruel to my woman, I beat her and kept her apart from the things that she loved was me. I used to be cruel to my woman, and physically… any woman. I was a hitter. I couldnt express myself and I hit. I fought men and I hit women… But I sincerely believe in love and peace. I am a violent man who has learned not to be violent and regrets his violence. I will have to be a lot older before I can face in public how I treated women as a youngster.”

He also cruelly told her of his affair and kind of just lounged about the house they shared with Yoko before fully leaving her. And according to Julian and their housemaid he was very emotionally abusive of him, he'd mock him and was constantly shouting at him and criticizing him and occasionally hit him. Followed by completely abandoning him.
Off topic, but for good reason:
