Apple is the deevils.
My Apple tv hd device was purchased in July 2018 and is still able to be updated and works perfectly.
Apple tv is a small box that plugs into an existing tv and allows it to function like a smart tv. I have a Samsung tv set, it is not a smart tv or a 4k, but my apple tv box plugs in and allows me to download and use apps.
Samsung for me. I doubt I'll get another one.
I don’t even know what TV I have, but Apple it is not.
I have an Apple tv and it works great for me.
I have 3 Roku TVs in the house and the newest one is 3 years old. Never had any issues with the apps.

That’s interesting. I might actually try that. I’m weird as I have most movie subscriptions out there, and I do use them all, but at the same time, I hate smart TVs. I’d almost rather watch stuff off my laptop via separate apps. I was talked into getting a smart TV against my will, essentially, and now the apps more or less work and don’t need updating (that I know of), but the TV part does not. So I cannot actually watch TV off my smart TV. Yet I pay for the TV license… You couldn’t make it up.

Yeesh, that makes "smart" seem like just a gimmick, doesn't it? Imagine getting a new video game console, but not being able to play games that come out six months after it's released.

Good to know about Apple, though. Will consider it.
