Of course it all could be a “Wag the Dog” scenario! 😏

I didn't mean the entire country or that all of Congress would get behind a president in time of war. I mean the percentages of support go up, at least initially. I do think (depending on the circumstances) a war with Iran could boast Trumps public support and make it easier for him to get re-elected. And in case if anyone doesn't know: I do not approve of Trump or want war with Iran.

Bear in mind that I'm a political noob. I'm not up on anything current. But I'm pretty sure I've heard it said that any setting president will go up in public opinion polls during time of war and that a split congress will initially show more unity in supporting a war time president. At least that's what I think has been shown historically to be true. I suppose it all has to do with the timing. As after a long war conflict people get restless and then stop supporting the war effort.
This might have been true in the past -- with clear-cut declarations of war, with aggressors who drew us into it, etc.

Historically, you would be correct. However, today's climate is unprecedented, to say the least. Both sides of the aisle have become so reactionary, there is no telling what is going to happen next...

Trump: I am reactivating the moon missions

Dems: Nuke the moon!

But how would Trump get re-elected if he doesn't start a little war
@PowderedWater Didn't we go with option B multiple other times in response to Iranian aggression in 2019? If not, why were all the left media outlets banging war drums and calling him weak? That happened. Jimmy Dore has some videos that collect the news clips if you are so inclined. Pretty sure a Democratic candidate based her entire platform on countering war hawk Dems, as well. Alas, he folded last night, so all that is moot now.
