If it's not connected to the house and opening and closing the garage door really is so tedious you could always leave it open and just regard it as the equivalent of an automobile lean-to

At least now you have a place to store a lot of those outdoor things that come with having a yard.
Also, an attached garage would steal some of the heat in the winter. Detached = don't have to heat it in any way. Can you remote-start your car from the house to warm it up, or is the garage too far/not windowed on the right side for that to work?

It should also keep the engine temp more stable through the nights. So less time to heat it up in the winter, and the fluids will thank you.
Heh. Bird crap not a huge problem here/not one that's bothered me much, at least.
I think the most compelling argument is, once they start salting the streets, it probably cuts down on undercarriage damage and stuff.

Don't forget: acid rain, UV rays, and birdshit. I'd kill for a garage just for that last one.
