The Shoutbox
Our house came with a baby grand piano that the previous owners couldn't take with them to their new house. Fortunately, both my husband and I kinda play piano, as do several of our grown kids. So, although I don't play it often enough and need to brush up on old skills, I'm glad we have it. Needs another tuning... but hubby likes to sit down and play Toccata and Fugue in D Minor from memory. Showoff!

I think my mom liked Billy Joel and it was an excuse for them to buy furniture.
Yeah, see, that’s exactly how most people I know ended up with them.

Oh, I do intend on taking the class at school in the fall. But that doesn’t help me now.

It was all a "bait and switch" that I thought was gonna lead to me playing guitar.

I loathed piano. Why? I think because it was the forced to play this stuff and do it 30 mins every day.

I'm not saying people should cave to a child's wants, but what's the point if the kid isn't engaged. If it takes pop music or other stuff, to get them there, why not? Better than not playing imb.
I loved saxophone. I never should have sold mine.

I tend to focus on technique early with students, slowly weaving in theory as we go along. If I go too heavy on the theory too early, I start to see that glazed eye look as confusion sets in.
