Oh it can do, but admittedly you do have to tread more carefully and you are more likely to find yourself on your uppers.
The hats company was big around the time they shipped almost everything to the US, nowadays it's different.
Dr. Martens are good, I had ones, but for half the price you pay for them you can buy something hand made that will last you the same or more time. I saw a documentary on how they make Dr. Martens, that is what I call have no soul.

I have a pair of Dr. Martens that will outlast the cockroaches after the nuclear finale.
Oh, I also made hats in FEPSA. The best hats on the planet are Portuguese, they are made in the North. But I can't claim I can do a hat. They had to make cuts, people don't use hats like they did before. Around 2009, my company where I was working made the hats for the movie Public Enemies.
I can use my hands, I inherited that from my family I guess, they are almost all carpenters, they make doors, tables, anything that is made of wood. I distanced myself from the branch, my mother was a gaspie, sewing shoe, I was a cutter is the most demanding part of the manufacture. I was a welder, steel for a while, didn't really liked, I don't like steel is dangerous, cold and dirty. Making shoes is an easy profession to romanticize, Daniel Day Lewis made shoes in Italy some people remember this, but the truth is that it is a profession that normally has a rather bad work environment, whether in large or small factories.
Making shoes is a lasting skill.

Also here you pay very little for a shoemaker intervention.
That's convenient. I did buy shoes while in Italy and they lasted me several years, so I can attest to their quality.

It's cool you worked as a shoe manufacturer as well, that's an interesting skill.
