Yeah, it's weird how people understand that you can't stop people from doing X, while simultaneously naively believing you can totally stop them from doing Y. People's belief in the efficacy of government is very often not consistent across issues, and it seems like most of them don't even register the clear dissonance.
All I know is it feels like 2009 all over again where the FDA and Congress are acting all high and mighty about cracking down on underage tobacco use without actually curbing it at all.

I'm so glad my state raised the age for all tobacco to 21. Now if we could just outlaw it all together I might stand a chance at quitting.
Vape sticks apparently explode in pockets and faces a lot. That's what my feeds imply. Not that a face has to be near a pocket in order for it to detonate. They seem to happen as frequently whether in close proximity to each other or not.
The part that's fair is making sure people don't confuse vaping for a harmless activity, with all the kiddie-style flavors, but that has to be balanced against how often it's actually being done by grown men and women coming from pack-a-day habits.
Are there actually any clinical comparisons between vaping and smoking? I don't smoke now so haven't read up on the subject but vaping still feels far too new in my head for there to be any definitive information as to it's long term benefits/detriments.
Yeah, the social media activism against vaping is getting crazy in my friend groups. Total boogieman campaigns. I can't help but ask why people are so quick to push a negative story on vaping but seem totally accepting of cigarette risks which, to me, are far worse. Maybe I'm projecting because the absence of equally discrediting cigarette use doesn't necessarily mean they support it. Still though. I don't remember ever seeing anyone really saying anything against cigarette use in kids.
I don't have any technical dispute with the stuff about vaping and its risks, but I'm a little perturbed at how often the activism directed at it fails to acknowledge that it's usually a substitute for tons of actual smoking. It might not be good, but it's often a lot better than what people were doing before. I know people who are definitely better off and healthier for the switch, even if it would obviously be best if they quit all forms of smoking.
TL; DR: The FDA really doesn't care about stopping underage smoking.
