I got to meet Mel Brooks when he toured around with theater showings of Blazing Saddles (we watched the movie, then had a Q&A with him, then the VIPs got to meet him). He was clear that Blazing Saddles could NOT be made today like it was then. He had a rough time getting it through the network red tape as it was. These days? It'd never happen. Not through a studio, anyway.
