I agree. There aren’t any inexpensive players I’ve found that meet my criteria, so vintage/used is the only way I found.

Yep. Wedged in a thicc styrofoam cooler. Maybe it worked when it was shipped. It didn’t work when arrived.

A repair shop gave me an estimate of $150-$250 for a frozen mechanism and broken needle.

My first sign of trouble was it got shipped in a styrofoam cooler.
I oughta play mine again sometime soon. I've neglected it in favor of the convenience of Spotify and Sonos, I'm ashamed to admit.
I love a good record player. I only have a few vinyls, but it’s a classy collection.

My original pressing of The River has seen many revolutions.

Look for a manual one. They're higher maintenance, but they provide the best sound and cause less wear and tear to your records than automatic ones. Also, while I like my glass platter, I've heard that acrylic ones are just as good if not better. My player is a Rega P1, which hasn't let me down yet.
